'99 T REG Mercedes A160 85,000.
Bought it because it had 12 months MOT.
When I change, I'll be sticking with the A class but will go for a younger Avant Garde model with the LWB and standard alloys.
I bought a Vauxhall Corsa because I had had enough of going round car dealerships looking at cars and just wanted to get it over with lol so I bought the car at the car dealership I was at. Needless to say i'm pretty pleased with it although it does have quite steep servicing costs for a 10 year old car.
330ci - nice smooth drive, comfortable, with a bit of poke when needed.
For the last 2 years I've been driving an 05 Audi A4 2.0TFSI Quattro. I had to choose something fairly quickly after my Alfa 156 got written off by an old codger who could barely see his own dashboard, let alone anything outside his car.
It's not been the most reliable Audi I've had, though to be fair it's done nearly 140,000 miles now. But it's very comfortable, goes like stink, and 4WD is fun in the wet (and snow ). It's not very economical, but my company pay for my petrol so that's not an issue for me.
Faced with a choice between economical and fun, i went for fun!
Definitely better to drive a car that you enjoy driving, rather than a car you hate.
Indeed. I couldn't go back to a car with a sewing machine for an engine!
Because it's the one I was looking for...Why did you buy the car that you drive?
Passat TDI Highline 130 chipped to 160. It's fast enough, and has plenty of room for the tribe.
She's getting on a bit, but I still love her.
I feel poor and dull... I drive a 60 plate hyundai i20 1.4 Auto... I had a 2.0 206 HDI that was costing me £1000s so the idea of a cheap ex-demo car for £159 a month that had 4.5 years worth of warranty, was cheap to insure, good MPG was just too tempting (I was paying a mortgage on a 3 bed house on my own). At the time I was only doing city commuting so it was fine. Now I'm back on the motorway every day I really wish I had the 2.0 HDI again... However i'm now married (met the month I bought the car!) and with the first kid on the way I doubt I'll be getting anything better any time soon.

Bought it because I wanted a V8. Must admit, the novelty has worn off a little but I really haven't been driving it a lot; I've only done 2000 miles since I got it 7 months ago.
Nice. There's something about the sound of a V8 that you just don't get from any other engine. A friend of mine has an Audi S5 and the sound it makes is to die for. The fuel consumption isn't quite so pleasant though.
Realise I didn't fill this in for my current one.
A3 sportback 2.0tdi
Was getting a bad back as my (then) new longer commute with a lot of bad road surfaces was just asking too much of the Astra, so wanted to look for something a bit more comfortable/with better suspension/cruise control etc., while still seating up to four adults comfortably. The ride of the non-sporty A3s had been hailed in several reviews and this was borne out in the test drives. Plus had twice the power and almost three times the torque of the astra, while giving up 5-10mpg in economy (still average 55mpg). The cabin is such a nice place to be - lovely wooden inserts, leather. The power makes it an easy drive. Lack of steering and brake feel not such a problem now I'm not doing cross country drives as much, but the grip levels and improved braking (+electric gubbins like ABS, TC, electronic 'diff-locking' etc.) are a bonus for roundabout entry/exits in poor weather and idiot/avoidance.
The miles are taking their toll however - at nearly 100k mechanical bits are wearing out, mostly suspension components due to road surfaces, so I'm in two minds whether to keep going with repairs (given the cabin and engine are still immaculate) or move on to a replacement.
I would probably sell it and move onto something newer. As you said not worth taking the risk if other things start to go wrong and you end up with a big bill
