Simple answer, don't race on the roads. I'm sick to death of idiots screaming along in their Scoobies or M5s racing each other on motorways or dual carriageways, cutting people up or severely tailgating when you're in a solid line of traffic in the outside lane. If you get trapped by this method, then I'm sorry, you deserve all you get. I'm speaking as someone who had a two year enforced break from driving through a speeding conviction before you all accuse me of being some limp-wristed sandal wearer.

the thing to remember here is that the type of Police that drive these cars are immensely highly trained.

(note that DOESNT mean I agree with the style of training they get...but none the less...these are considered the top boys and girls)

They are the speed cops...the motor way traffic boys....they KNOW what they are doing and I believe it is firmly accepted by the courts ...I just dont think a Judge would be at all offended by them doing it....

so please dont ANYONE think its a form of entrapment...it just wont hold water.

    I hate it....so do you

No doubting they are the best. I've seen the way traffic cops can drive at 100mph+ on a very wet motorway and be very safe at the same time.

Years of training, but as zak said, they are the best.

Still totally wrong what they do though.

oh no you dont.....I never said that.....the way a Police Driver is trained does nothing for me at all.....(thats just for the record)

...what I am saying is that the Police believe they train their drivers to a very high standard and must know they do this...infact, as they are senior officirs in such cars, its a given....

They obviously don't know what they're doing. If you are tailgating me and I hammer the brakes on then you are going to hit me no matter what training you have! The only thing you can tailgate a normal car in and know you aren't gonna hit it is a properly set up F1 car (or variant, ie NASCAR).

I personally think that having cops drive around in unmarked souped up motors is fine, even a good idea. That way they're much more likely to catch the idiots tailgating and undertaking etc. on the motorway, and have them bang to rights.

Tailgating people and attempting to provoke them into speeding is frankly unacceptable. I bet they don't do that to people in AX diesels and Metro Citys, they're going out of their way to target people in fast cars. If you get anyone tailgating you, my advice is to tap your brakes to frighten them, then when they overtake open the window and give them the old ****er hand gesture. Pretty sure that's not illegal, and it's be hard to contest.

Okay, that is some of them, but the majority of trafic cops i've seen have been excellent drivers.

there is no law....its up to them to decide and defend themselves IF it goes Pete Tong.

EXAMPLE.....the Police force have been sending SPEEDING TICKETS to AMBULANCE FORCES>...

the Ambulance HAS TO FILL IN A FORM to prove that it was a Call out....and then go to court...EVERYTIME.

It has only just become standard procedure for GATSO's to not send a fine to Ambulances and Fireengines with BLUES ON.

That law has only just been sorted...this week!!!!

1 milllion pounds of tax payers money has been used every year to DEFEND SPEEDING TICKETS RECEIVED BY AMBULANCES AND FIRE ENGINES!!!!! on CALLOUT!!!

So...no ...the Police can do what they want at the moment...cos its their world it seems.

Judge: Why did you go so fast?
Driver: I was being hassled by a sports hatch so I accelreated to get out of the way.
    Judge: why not pull over...

Yup, but at what point do you think they're gonna start rolling the in car camera that they may later have to rely on in court?

I've got to say that i hate tailgaters. I normally try to let them pass, but if its a single carriageway with a 30mph speed limit then i end up involuntarilly going 35 instead of 30.

    I don't think thats right

Tailgaters of any description I start with the wash/wipe as a clue... If they dont then realise they are hassling me, a quick tap on the brakes. This usually does the trick. If it dont... I see just how quickly I can get that brake pedal to the floor as that invisible dog runs out

As for the Police doing it, it's despicable. Goading somebody into commiting a crime that they weren't previously doing is illegal and completely immoral . And then they have the face to tell Joe Public they are not interested from speeding revenue. <insert the most foul obscenity you can think of here>

I don't know if this means they'll pull you for doing 90, but doing 100 is 30mph over the limit, and if its busy enough that all 3 lanes are busy, then doing 100 deserves to be taken, surely?

The best policy is to slow down to 70, or the same speed as the car in the next lane, if its the boys in blue then its all good, and if its some fool of a boy racer then maybe you'll annoy him as much as he annoys others on the motorway by tailgating them!

Having said that, this idea of goading people into speeding by tailgating is just wrong, its asking for accidents, another unnecessary expense of taxpayer money if nothing else.

If you did manage to videotape them doing that though, would you be able to report them for unnecessary dangerous driving? Or would sod all come of it?
