Have removed the bits that dont apply...
Got a set of tyres n all was well in 4x4 land for a while until the ECU gave up the ghost so back to fwd mode, then fixed the 4x4 again but it wasnt 100% right so looking at a locked box now.

Aircon went for the new FMIC and now running a touch more than standard boost
Shouldnt be far off 300Bhp by estimates...

Hmmm looks like most are as bad as me.
    This morning:
Drivers side door handle is primer cououred still after 3 months. The old one fell off.
Interior fan doesn't work at all.
Electric windows dont work at all (my fault - I was trying to fix the interior fan and dod something to break them)
Front wiper blades need changing badly
Exahust is rattly. Dont know if its heatshields or the cat.
Scrape on front bumper. Parked in tescos. Bumper was fine. Came back, bumper was scraped
its not a lot of work really, its just fining the time. The car's at an auto electricians right now and they seem to have gotten to the bottom of both the electric window issues and the fan issue
TBH all it needs is the rattly zorst sorting and the wiper blades after than and it'll be great again

here's what WAS wrong with my car:

    1. car doesn't start
    2. no left wingmirror
    3. tape player makes ticking noise
    4. no rear wiper - it never had one
    5. no power steering
    6. rust all over the place
    7. no aeriel - we can only pick up 1 station, 2 if you're in the right part of town
    8. speakers are half broken
    9. doors still have bits of velvet covering on them
    10. makes clunking noise when turning sharp left
    11. temp guage is either off or fully hot

and the reason why I don't have these problems anymore, is because it's gone to the scrapyard today

    2. Possibly the worst thing to go with the above is that the insides of my windows get terrible condensation all of the time, but thats a common astra problem apparantly.

    3. Fan belt squeals like a pig. A lot!!!

    4. Minor dents on front right headlight and left rear door/wheel arch.

    5. MIssing a hub cap or 2.

    6. And finally my key looks like this.

And the immobiliser still works I didnt even know it had 1 until i tried getting a replacement key.

p.s. All of the above was already like it when i got the car about 5 weeks ago. so don't think that key is my handy work. haha

    K plate 2L going on 130K:

    One headlamp wiper disconnected
    Odd bumps and scrapes
Arches on a weight saving mission.
    Looseing coolant somewhere.

G plate 2.9L Well over the 150K mark and hiding in a garage whilst I put it back together:

Spits oil out of every gasket (well, it has done 50K after all!)
Brakes are somewhat sponge like - got some much larger ones to go on
ABS angry about something - probably need to clean the sensors
Think I've broken a wheel stud - cheap fix
Tyres missing large chunks where they discovered the wheelarch - bush bash wheel arch with hammer
Indicators don't self-cancel - actually the most annoying falt of all of them
Rear wiper siezed and not really touching the window
Only 2 lines on the rear demist work
Blowers packed up - works, but it's more like an octavia fan than the traditional ford hurricane
Air con has packed up - please please please just be a regas
    Battery's knackered - old age
Heated front screen not doing anything - probably just disconnected
Drivers side wing mirror not fitted on right - would you belive the ghia ones are different to the lower models?
Engine missing 3 camshafts and 12 valves
Speedo reads exatly 2/3rds of road speed (yes, 45mph is speeding)

And many many more. Makes it look like it belongs ina scrap yard, but people don't notice unless I point a lot of them out. Still, I bought it so I had a car to play about with.

It has a scratch on the front wing where some idiot in a carpark reversed into it and then cleared off without leaving his details.

2-year old BMW 530i SE. Love it to bits apart from:

    1. Gives me around 18MPG around town. WTF?

Selling it next year. Just cannot afford the £100 per week for fuel that i'm donating to Shell!

    Taz, is it an E39?

If so, pics? Ownership experiences? How do you rate it? Whats it like reliability wise? What economy do you get on the Motorway etc?

No, mate it's the new-shape (E60) the ugly one 100% reliable. Utterly awesome on the motorway. I regularly do 200-250 mile trips up North and arrive totally refreshed. Economy on m/way is around 32-25MPG (in sport mode - 6-speed auto box). Bad economy around town as I have a heavy right foot and always use sport mode.

Here's a lesson on ownership experience: my local BMW dealer (1-mile from my flat) offers a service while you fly experience - great for frequent business travellers. They drop you off at the airport, service your car and then collect you from the airport when you get back - all for free.

Alternatively, if it's a quick service, I can have a days golf at their expense or a day at the gym. They take me there and bring me back to the dealership when the car is ready.

I've got the BMW Service Inclusive option in which all maintenance (excluding tyres) is included for the first 5 years or 60,000 miles. It cost around £600 when I bought the car.

The dealer just sent me details of a new free service. If I have an accident I just make one call to the dealers helpline and they take care of everything for me. That includes sorting out a loan vehicle and contacting my insurer and the third partys insurer on my behalf. They also take the car into their service centre and fix it. All from one freephone phone call!

Hence, I cannot fault BMW service, much better than Porsche service which was very bad.
