Puddle lights are lights on the bottom of the door shining down that light up when the door is open, so you can see if you're about to step in a puddle
Ones under the sun shades that light up with the mirror are vanity lights (so I can check my lippy ). Not sure what the one by the rear view mirror is called that you can set to come on and off with the doors - just interior light I expect, but then there are (with the right pack) reading lights too which can be individually turned on and off. Not that I've ever known anyone read in the car at night, but they do look nice.
I'll get over it once I see the S-line styling in the flesh I'm sure. Few weeks to go until it arrives, just hope they make it on time or I'll have to renew the tax on my old car just for a few days (and then claim it back for the other months).
I always thought they were courtesy lights. The ones by the rear view mirror/rear headlining, I mean. But maybe it's a catch-all for all the interior lights.
They are an optional extra with Skoda, who call them Boarding-Spots
Pretty sure they were standard on the higher specced B6 Passat, MKIV Golf etc too but like you I'd have thought the curvature of the door as well as the light being on the 'wrong' side of the door would block most of the downward light - more of a gimmick than a useful tool.
Found some pics of someone else's A3 with the same paint/wheel/suspension spec:
Mine won't have the roof rails or shaded rear windows, but otherwise will look the same. Not too gangly after all.
And it's here Have some pictures but a bit paranoid about location pointing at the moment, may post later.
First impressions:
+My goodness it looks good
+I didn't need to worry about the interior lights - the SB does come with reading lights in the rear so it's bright enough back there. Front is a little dim but not too bad.
+That engine.. I've got the throttle on the gentlest setting and I'm trying to take it easy, but I'm still spinning front wheels every few get-aways..
-Wheel suspension combo isn't ideal - low profile means surface imperfections are felt a bit more that I'd like, while the suspension allows for a tad more rise and dive than I'd prefer. Haven't tried it in anger yet though.
-Despite having the storage pack, first aid kit bag is just left to rattle around the boot while there's a great deal of space in the spare wheel going unused - previous car had a tool holder here which would have been better.
But best of all - first time I pulled up in the driveway, all the builders came out from a nearby house to give it a look over and many thumbs up Darn I've turned into a poser
There's a compartment in the base of the driver's seat that is perfectly sized for the first aid kit (no idea why it doesn't come pre-stowed there though).
OK it fits under driver seat fine.
Question though - should there be any compartment or even trim under the passenger seat? I've got nothing there at all - can see cables etc. exposed.
Nope nothing under the passenger seat. It makes more sense when you consider that on a LHD car the first aid kit is under the passenger seat. Hi-vis should be in the compartment in the rear seat bench. Would be nice if they had a compartment under both seats though, the there'd be a spare.
True. Looks a bit untidy as is as well (but maybe other people aren't concerned about what under the seats looks like )
Just done first commute - averaged an indicated 45mpg, which I'm very pleased with given it's -1 outside. These new engines do warm up quickly I guess!
Still not happy about the ride on the 18" wheels - even with the SE suspension lumps and thumps come through quite badly, and the car is unsettled if I hit a rut while cornering. Consoling myself with the fact it's not the end of the world if I have to fit new wheels at some point. Road noise is very high too! First step will be changing tyre makes when I replace them - could be the OEM contis are hard+loud!
Radio comes on each time I start the car, which is a little odd. Seems there's not really an 'off' - the off button just kind of mutes it.
Yeah, the closest to off is to select a media source that isn't connected, a bit odd.
I've been missing the fast warm up today; mine is in the garage so I have a courtesy Polo, it takes ages to warm up by comparison.
