I love it... it's the only car I've ever owned where 80 feels like 120! I got to 105 on track once, mind thought I was playing burnout with added motion blur.
Top fun.
Skid control?? What are you talking about? You realise you can turn off most electronic features such as traction control so that you can skid around as much as you like? Oh wait, you clearly didnt but thought it would be great to mention it as some sort of fact that would ruin the driving experience....
Maybe someone who drives an Elise isnt going to be impressed - but most people would rather want some comfort AND some fun, plus a few cup holders wont go a miss.
People can complain about an aspect of a car - but as an overall package the M135i wins hands down, it doesn't have the largest boot, it's not the quickest, its not the most comofrtable, its not the cheapest but what you have is a car that beats most cars in all of those areas, therefore making it the winner in my book.

The problem is that people buy on spec rather than how a car feels.
If car 1 number > car 2 number THEN car 1 is better.
When actually there are three types of 'fun' in cars.
1) fast - as in straight line speed and acceleration.
2) arse end out
3) driving close to the limit, or the limit being easily obtained without dying.
The problem is that 1 is easy, 2 is dangerous and 3 is the hardest to implement. Irony is that a 1.4 petrol polo is better at option 3 than the m135i. While the m135i is better at the easy things.
Also, don't get me started on how over tyred modern cars are. I deliberatly put standard 205 on the read of the elise, while most put on 225s. It makes roundabouts more fun!
I think I've just seen another argument for a Corsa actually. Less brand snobbery
Still more fun than the m135i
I drove an M135 4 years ago.
I have to be honest.. it was in winter on cold roads.. and even pulling away was nigh on impossible. I think a regular fwd family hatch would have nailed it round an auto test in a car park between cones.
However.. I'm sure in summer on quick roads it's simply awesome.
Howeverx2... it's not quite the target "small car" that many people quite pictured in this thread.. good as it may be

And yes I am aware you can turn off the electronics (well mostly, isn't e-diff and ABS always on?) but AIUI the car is an utter liability in that mode. Something like an Elise with less power doesn't need computer intervention and is more fun.
But again, it is down to what you are after in a car. If straight line drag racing is it, then you have the perfect steed there. For others, a GT86 with its intentionally limited power and skinny tyres is going to be more fun in the twisty bits. Something with the engine in the back is different again though.
How many of other peoples suggestions can be controlled by an android or ios phone?

Fiesta EcoBoost or ST.
Had a Zetec first and it was great. Comfortable and nippy with good control in the bends and quick clear windscreen for the winter.
Have an ST now and it's great (though a little less forgiving on the behind obviously).
Learned to drive in a BMW Mini and just didn't like it, more so after I got my Zetec. Friend has a BMW Mini Cooper S and the suspension is stiffer than my ST. So uncomfortable and (as it's BMW) more costly to maintain.
I cant comment about the recent BMW minis but everyone I've ever been in has had rock hard suspension and more rattles than a baby's toy!
