Bit of a hairy incident today

Was on the M6 going pretty fast on the inside lane, fairly quiet, one muppet tootling along the middle lane and the outer lane has the odd car along it. The road starts to go downhill and the car starts gaining more speed. Noticed and begin reducing my speed gradually when I notice something on the road in my lane. No idea what it is but it looks large and lethal and was right in the path of my wheels. Swerve into the middle lane to avoid it (turned out to be a wheel trim!) and then have to swerve back to the inside lane to avoid the guy in the middle lane. Back end goes out, manage to miss middle lane driver, back into inside lane, back end goes other way... well you can guess the rest. Managed to regain control of the car. Have to say, scariest couple of of seconds in my life. Was half expecting a Reyland Gumball crash.

    Whoa

    What car were you driving?

That could have been lethal if you had lost control for even a second more!

MG ZR 105. It was indeed scary. I had no idea what the debris was and what would have happened if I'd gone over it. Could have made things worse, could have caused a tyre blowout or loss of control in some other way (like straight into the barrier).

Ouch that could have been nasty - i recon at high speed if you have to do a tight swerve, you must immediatly apply oppisite lock after the swerve or your in a world of fishtail hurt.

    Well held!

The middle lane twonk complicated matters, persinally i recon they should make it legal to nudge round the back end of middle lane twonks from the inside lane, put em into the scenery where they cant provide any more danger for the normal person :|

Yeh that happened to me too when some twonk pulled out in front of me off a roundabout on a dual carridgeway on the way to work, instinct mode kicked in and in 3 seconds which went like 0.3 seconds, i handt crashed, looking back it reminded me of taking a chicane at castle coombe way too fast, fling it right, avoid the first set of rubber posts, crap yourself, fling it left, then your left to deal with the fishtail aftermarth, the back end dosent know what the hell its supposed ot be doing

You can't really moan at the guy in the middle lane... He had no idea what was happening no doubt

Here's a rough sketch of how it was (obviously lanes aren't that wide!! and the distances aren't exact):

I hate middle lane drivers, I spend most of my time on the inside lane as I find myself overtaking most people in the middle lane, even when I'm only doing 70mph!. If he hadn't been in the middle lane (he really was pootling along) I wouldn't have had to swerve so suddenly and then swerve back. Timing sucked too, he was just past the debris as I had to swerve, if there'd been more space things wouldn't have had to be so evasive.

I bet he crapped himself as much as me when he saw me fishtailing past him

ive had a few of those moments - most noticably someone decided they didnt want to take the first right, they wanted the second right (it was one of those hashed out bits in the middle of the road so traffic could go either side), and just pulled straight out from the hashed bit into my path, im doing 60+ hauled all on the brakes but from there all in it was instinct, i remember the back stepping out but not how i controled it.....

just be glag you came out of it ok

thats a very nice m0ter by the way, have you got it in the bright blue or yellow?

Getting lowered 40mm tomorrow. Just springs at the moment but wishing now I'd gone all out and got decent shocks too (the MG is a hard enough ride as it is and I can only imagine how bad it will be when it's lowered 40mm). I assume I'll need to get the camber sorted as well to avoid excessive tyre wear?

How do you mean? That could imply I have washed it or it needs washing

It's rain by the way, that was after I first bought it so was desperate for a pic.
