I have decided to make this a bit of a quiz. I need a newer car,and have in fact chosen- can you work it out?

Back story - I need a car, with competent 4wd, average to good ground clearance for mild off roading (forest tracks, medium mud and a few rocky parts that endanger low sumps). Reliability will be part and parcel of my choice, and style over substance...will not

The PHEV version allows cheap electric pootling about town (28 miles would get me to work and back) in comfort and could get you down a muddy track if needed.

Edit: OFC my Italian car bias says you should get an Alfa Stelvio. But competent handling & performance didn't seem to be on your list. Our next door neighbour said he was worried about Alfa reliability, and then went out and bought of all things a Range Rover which shows people's purchases aren't generally made on the foundation of facts and are really just what you fancy

He didn't specify "Want something to be mostly driven sideways" and it does fail on the 4WD requirement. It fails the requirement with such style though

4WD would mean a Lancia Delta Integrale, and they are getting rather old and pricey for an everyday car now as well. It would probably be cheaper to get a 500BHP Stelvio Quadrifoglio which ISTR uses a similar 4WD system to the Integrale.

They seem quite good value, recent ones are supposed to be cheap to insure as well. Kia seem to be running a scrappage scheme, so you could get £2500 for that old Octavia.

My neighbours have this massive toyota thing. Seems to behave itself. When I was in NZ I hired a big car that turned out to be a Toyata Rav4. I was pleasantly surprised and would happily get one based on that experience with it.

Good choice but no I won't buy Mitsu now that they are withdrawing from Europe. Parts will be fine for a few years but as the quantity of the new car regs drops to zero, less effort will be put into regular shipments.

I love Alfa, and you're right, people buy Range Rovers naively thinkng they're reliable... pft

In all cases though... too big, am going smaller and cheaper

No it doesnt have an Isuzu badge .. I did ponder a pickup but I cant justify it truly
