i personally think top gear is a lot better.. its actually funny at times, with fun features, rather than just stuff about cars.. they find interesting ways to test cars, and i think thats good. the crash stuff on 5th gear is more interesting however..

the 200mph thing would have been good if they'd actually done it, but spreading a feature over 2 series is just crap. i like the way its an hour long now.. but the competition is ALWAYS bollox 'we're giving away our favourite aston, which happens to be 30 years old, rusty, and broken. but its still our favourite '. what a pile of bull

incidentally, i've been watching a load of top gear episodes from 89-90 of late, and they're ok, but dull, a bit like 5th gear imo.

Looks like November the 13th will be a good day. Hope they get their hands on the Bugatti soon. Man, can't wait to see The Stig rake that round the track.

I haven't been around much t watch 5th Gear. I prefer Top Gear banter and it makes me laugh. Don't have anything against 5th Gear.

Anyone read Clarksons book? The world according to clarkson?

I bought it from Play.com last week.. £5.50... and started reading little bits......

I'm superb The sarcasm in his writing comes across so well!!! I'm loving it and i've never read a book for about 10 years!!!! hehe
It also helps because you can hear his voice and tones when reading.

    just saw this thread and...
i disagree, i think topgear is by far the better out of the two, just take for example the few eps spent at the nerburg ring and when jeremely clarkson drove that porchse and merc while being shot at
also the people they get to film top gear are wicked - the camera shots are great! they also have a huge budget

so for me Top gear is the best

EDIT: I have to say though i havnet seen all/most of 5th gear recently, have some how managed to miss them

Tiff's a knob. Vikki is cute - how you resist someone who says the word "frooooty!". Jason - he's alright.

Problem with top gear is that Clarkson's ego is gone out of control and the scripted pisstakes of little guy are just getting embarassing.

But clarkson can be funny, hammond tries so hard to be funny but rarely is. Actually feel sorry for the guy sometimes

He was useless. He talked complete rubbish, his advice was either just poor or plain wrong.

That segment also went wholly against what Top Gear is now. An entertainment show. I dont watch TG to find out where some fat bloke reckons I can get a 1.6 Focus 'cheap', I watch it to see stripped XJS' running nitrous drive off of Aircraft Carriers, or to see a few hundred thousand pounds worth of exotic metal being thrashed around an airfield for no reason other than they can.

There is a reason Top Gear's ratings are far in excess of any other motoring show aired at the same time

Fat Bloke is on a half decent show called "Used Car Roadshow" with Penny Mallory on Men & Motors. It's not Top Gear, or 5th Gear for that matter, but then it doesn't pretend to be. Each week they do the show from an enthusiasts club show which generally provides the theme (Japanese sports cars, 70s cars, Fords etc) and Fat Bloke finds 4 or 5 suitable cars for someone that's after a new (or old) motor whilst pointing out the gotchas for that particular vehicle.

Like I say, It's not Top Gear, but when fantasy turns to reality, most of us drive cars that we didn't get from new, and we certainly don't drive Top Gear exotica.
