    Insurance woes

My renewal came through from Elephant today; predicatably, despite the fact that I'm a year older and have an extra year's NCB, they still want more this year than last year. Last time around I saved an extra £70 by simply letting the insurance run out, then going back and getting another quote as a 'new' customer. I'm not sure whether they might have got wise to the practice this time round, since they don't let you in to get a quote if you're an existing customer.

Anyway, the point is that I'm properly hard up at the moment and I really don't want to be paying out over £300 for insuarance again. The car is an '88 MR2 coupe worth a few hundred quid at most, I'll be 26 in June with 6 years NCB, clean licence, and in the last year I've covered less than 2000 miles. Are there any specialists who might do me a good deal considering how little I drive nowadays? Does my car count as a classic now it's 17 years old, and can I save anything that way?

Cheers guys. Actually that was something else I wanted to rant about...0870 numbers. Elephant actually want me to call them on an 0870 number if I don't want them to automatically bill my card for my renewal. What? I have to PAY for the privilege of calling them and telling them not to take my money? Utter cheeky b*stards. Luckily my card number has changed since last time, so they won't be able to take the money anyway. I'm going to email them and tell them so, but call a toll number? I think not.

    Write to them

I'm not sure I'll try elephant again. The operator actually laughed at me.

Well, they're part of Admiral, but going from Admiral to Elephant two years ago saved me over a hundred quid. Got a good reduction last year too.

I dunno- I suppose £360 isn't actually a lot considering I live in London and I'm not yet 30, it's just that I'm a good driver who's never caused an accident and I resent sending a cheque off every year to get absolutely FA back in return. Bloody bad drivers- ban 'em all I say.

Mine's been worth it for heated windscreens! £50 a throw's a lot less than it could be, i tell ya.

Funny, I think admiral got me my 2nd best quote when elephant laghued at me and told me to give up..... odd.

They beat everyone else by £300 for me and it gets cheaper every year, and I have points on my license and they still beat everyone under the sun.
