    One rule for them......

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/s...re/4559173.stm

Fair enough that they acquitted him of dangerous driving, I can believe that he didn't endanger anybody. As for the speeding though....how ridiculous. Rospa are wrong as usual when they say that the police shouldn't go over 100mph even in emergencies, but they should be practising high speed driving on a closed circuit, not on public roads.

Livid.. If I got pulled driving like that and explained the conditions were clear, I've got motorsport experience etc etc the Judge would laugh and put me away for 6 months at least.

Not amused in the slightest. As per usual, one rule for them, another one for us...

I have just replied to the same story in another thread, fancy a petition and a letter to the minister of transport. I get done for 6mph over he gets away with 90 over the limit on the roads i the uk and 60mph over the marker where your license can be stripped.

A Vauxhall. One that was totally unsuited to the speeds he did. I dread to think what would have happended had he tried to perform any sort of emergency maneuver at that speed.

My low regard for traffic coppers has hit an all time low.

Was a case between two traffic police up here, racing down the coast road (racing each other btw) one lost control and swiped the other one writing off two volvo T5's. They covered that one up, only found that out as an old friends dad was their sarg at the time. Makes you sick doesn't it.

to be honest, if a stock car is capable of doing 160mph i wouldnt personally deem it any 'less suitable' of doing that speed than any other car. coppas cars are usually modified (strengthened chassis is a typical example), but do not normally have more power than the stock version..

personally, i think there needs to be, in writing, a list of how fast it is suitable for a coppa to do, but that is hard to judge. if somone was doing 140 on a mway, i would hope the coppa would follow suit, and they do need training for those speeds, however a public road, however empty, is not the place for it. i often sit on motorways behind lorrys at around 60mph.. quite often late at night as well. on big hills, if a lorry slows down (to, say, 40) and another lorry doing 50 overtakes it, then i might well feasably try and overtake doing, say 65. i very rarely get in anyones way, i check a long way behind before dropping a cog and flooring it. that said, if i was doing 65 up said hill alongside a lorry, and a copper comes up my arse doing 160mph, there is no chance that there will not be an accident of some kind.d

    not on those fella....standardo

brakes, engine, speedo heads....not body shell

    Wanna hear it get worse?

    He did 84mph in a 30mph zone

and over 130 on an A road with a 60 limit

So....this "Creme de la Creme" Police Driver is APPARENTLY a better driver than Johhny Herbert or Nigel Mansell who BOTH got nicked at the PEAK of their careers for speeding....

    at lower speeds.

Lets get this into context.....one of the FINEST DRIVERS ON HUMAN HISTORY, who has won the ULTIMATE DRIVING CHAMPIONSHIP ON THE PLANET......is not as good as a bloke with a Police License!!??

Think Frank Williams might wanna talk to that old bill....he'll be a lot cheaper than F1 drivers...and apparently he's better too

    there ya go....

Nigel Mansell got BANNED for 6 months for doing 92 mph in his Bentley.

But according to the Judge today....an Old Bill Driver is safer at over 80 IN A TOWN !!!! in a Vauxhall!!

Safer than the Ex World Champion !

Mansell, who is a special constable with the Devon and Cornwall police force, was not in court.

It was a latest model Vectra 3.2 V6 was it not? As I say, I don't think it truly was dangerous driving, but it's quite absurd for a judge to let him off. Sod all we can do about it though....except campaign for elected judges rather than superannuated old gits with no common sense or reason.

Look i am sorry, i dont care what anyone says and i dont care who they are or what they do. 84 in a built up area is about as dangerous as it gets. And just coz he's "a profesional police driver", he gets away with it. It's plain injustice.

At 86 in a 30, you give people pulling out of junctions etc, next to no chance to correctly gauge your speed "one minute i was tootling along there was a car in the far distance, the next minute i woke up in intensive car with bits of window in my skull", and if anyone walks out in front of you, theyre dead and youve got no chance of stopping.

Ok you can argue how good the car / breaks are till your blue in the face, but lets face facts, this was no ferarri enzo, it was a vecra, with small disks, probably not even 4 pots, and cheap vauxhall pads and god knows what tyres - and if you had been doing 30 when someone walked out in front of you, you would probably have stopped in time with your uber vauxhall racing upgraded brakes, BUT YOU WERE DOING 80, YOU DIDNT STOP, YOU KILLED THEM.

This is a load of sh"te. This sorta rubbish makes me absoloutly livid. So i cant do 75 on the M4 at 3am "safeley" yet a "a profesional police driver" can fly past a school at 80 and it be deemed safe.

What kinda bullcrap is that exactly? Race drivers hone their skills on a race tracks and they still crash often causing injusry to themselves or others, but "a profesional police driver" can do that on public roads an tis fine, that is the most stupid thing ive ever heared. "Sir why did you beat this man to death with a chair? Oh i was honing my chair wielding skills and he unfortiunatly got in the way. Oh, thats ok then sir, we all need to hone our chair wielding skills, your free to go"

84 in a 30 is much more criminal than 160 on a motorway imo. think of all the dozy drivers at that time in the morning too.. piss'eads on their way home, half-asleep commuters getting up.. sure they shouldnt be on the roads either. but that guy is a menace.

i seem to remember some guy got jailed for 6?? months for doing 140 in a m3 on a deserted motorway - why is this any different?
