Petrol Question - long drive..

I'm off to Devon this weekend, and was wondering, should i fill up with optimax for the 400/500 miles i plan to do next week, or just use super unleaded?

only done 7k miles, but rarely travel more than 5 miles at a time, so would it be beneficial just to use optimax for a bit to clean the engine?

Optimax over BPU anyday, I usually fill with Sainsburys SUL (97), on longer M'way runs I'll stick Shell in to clean it out a bit...

Could do. But how much of your time will that extra mile waste? Not to mention it's damaging to cars to drive short distances, where you could just push your car to the end of the road and fill up with petrol

For me, optimax gives better fuel economy compared to supermarket trash. So i always use it on long or short drives. Even tho the nearest shell garage is a 10+ mile round trip

supermarket fuel is actually exactly the same as normal bp fuel.. most cars, even new ones, wont notice the slightest difference between 95 and 98 ron, its only if you have a tubby or highly tuned engine that you need 98 for (and even then, it will run fine on 95 if you dont use all the power..)

personally i always use the cheapest fuel available.. even if the detergents do 'protect' the engine - 95% of cars these days are not ended because their engines give up the ghost, its nearly always a prang, rust, or other expensive bits. rarely the engine..

It ain't always about the RON and MON values guys. Better fuel usually has better cleaning additives, which do help. For that reason alone I chuck the odd tank of Ultimate or Optimax in now and then just to flush things out.

Get that EGR and IAC valve blown/sucked/cooked clean.

Nowt worse for 1.4 16v Vauxhall engines than slow town work day in, day out

Once it's warm though obviously. Don't want too much wear on the poor engine in the process.
