Question From Brighton to Hollyhead, how long???

My mate put a deposit down on a car in Brighton. We are travelling over from Ireland. We are going to fly to Gatwick, get train to Brighton and then drive the car to Hollyhead in Wales to get the Ferry back to Dublin!!

But I am dreading the drive from Brighton, how long a drive are we talking here?

    Thanks

6-7+ hours, but you will be hitting the variable speed limit + speed camera sections of the M25, plus think theres roadworks with 40-50mph limits + cameras as well. My advice would be to try and sleep in Brighton during the day and leave around 7-8pm. You should then get a clear run at it.

you've got 2 routes - along the m23, m25, m4, m40, m5 then off, or you could pootle along the a27, then up the a36 (i think) till it hits the m5, the 2nd route is much nicer imo, and timewise should be about the same.

use the route planner thing to work out approximate times - the roads in wales get pretty sh*tty, but i think theres a motorway linking the m5 and holyhead. brighton -> cardiff would be 3 hours, so i recon add another 3 for holyhead. (i live in brighton)

type in 'holyhead' and it comes up with 3 options, one of which is 'holyhead ferry terminal, gwynedd'.

i wish. the a55 is not a motorway more a speed camera sprint. and whatever you do make sure not driving in between crossing the bridge from bangor to angelsey at anywhere near 2 pm as this is when they swap the traffic flow direction over and you can get stuck for absolutely ages.

Maybe we wont care much about speed cameras as we aint from England hehehe

I know Northern Irish drivers get away with speeding in the Republic.

I think you'll find that the situation's changed regarding that. I know it happens for us now. Whereas you could get a ban here, get on the boat and still drive in the UK, it follows you home now....

    play it safe matey
