    Dealer or Specialist Service History?

Ok I am going to be selling my existing Clio, its an 1.4 Sport X plate with 53.8k on the clock and so far its had a full Dealer Service History and the 54k service is due very shortly, is it worth me going through the dealer again given I will be selling the car within 500-750 miles? Is it going to make that much of a difference to the resale value of the car if I get the service done at a renault specialist rather than a dealership? I really cannot stomach speanding the £360 standard service price plus parts and additional labour....

    Any input would be appreciated

    £360 for a service on a Clio :O

My last service/MOT on my Audi at an Audi garage was only £385

Sorry I'm not helping much, just shocked at the price of the service. I used to own a Clio 16v back in the day, and when I came to having it serviced I found that the specialist service centers were only a fraction cheaper than Renault, something like £30 cheaper if I remember rightly.

Is there a big difference in the price's between the 2 services?

Try £195 from my local Renault specialist.
Its NOW £375 from the dealer, I just checked.

I think I know which I prefer, but want to make sure its not going to cain the resale value.

My mum's Jag X Type was £225 for a service, Renault taketh the pissuth.

You think £360 for a normal service is expensive, try ££498 for the major service, hence why my 04 plate clio is doing as little miles as possible so I can hit the 2 yr mark instead of the 18000 mile mark. At the end of the day, go with the specialist, they will know more about the car and do a better job than the monkeys at the renault garages.

this is a major service, its on the 18k interval, and the fixed price for the clio is £375. so not sure where you got £498 from?

With Renaults.... the Major Service is usually 36k and 72k.
I've never bothered with getting dealers to service my cars... why? Because they are absolutely crap!!! Ya hear too many bad storys about problems at the dealers!

Ya just need to spend 10 minutes reading www.cliosport.net forums to find out that most Renault dealers are monkeys. Ya even hear about the monkeys (mechanics) hammering the customers car up and down the roads on "test drives".

Which car would you buy if you had the choice between 2 identical cars but one had a FDSH (Full Dealer Service History) and one had a FSH (Full Service History).

    I personally couldn't give a toss!!!

I'm quite lucky because theres a local garage in Newcastle called "Renault Specialists" which looks like a really dodgy back street garage... but the bloke who owns it is absolutely spot on! He knows his stuff about Renaults so i just use him for any work that needs to be done.

hahah thats classic, the Renault specialist near the office is exactly like that. Mine is on the 18k intervals, will need to check exactly what this one is, the £95 for the interval service that I have just been quoted at the specialist sounds like a bargoon....

Well - my experience of dealers is that they have next to no interest in your car (only if you're going to buy another one from them). Toyota in cardiff are absolutely rubbish, charged me the earth to do some work on my MR2 but they were competent at least. Be careful with 'specialists' and try and see how much work they do on a given car - should be no problem with a car as common as a clio though - i'd go through a specialst tbh. In fact i do precisely that now - if anyone has a performance jap motor (especially if its an import like mine) then i can totally recommend osaka autodesign in south wales. And also i dont reckon it'll make a massive amount of difference to the resale value if you have one service not from the dealer.
