Eww 307- horrid car. Much too tall and soggy.

I wish they'd sold the E38 diesels here Vimeous, if I had money I'd be tempted to try and source a 740d engine and a suitable manual gearbox and put them in a RHD car. That would suit me down to the ground TBH.

Edit: bloody confusing BMW series numbers
Gonna confuse you some more, 6 years old would be a 325TDS or 525TDS Not quite the outstanding engines the later ones are, unfortunately.

I thought the common rail models were introduced in 1998? That makes them 6 1/2 years old at least.

I know the old tds engine was a bit of a shonker.

The newer ones are pretty good though. Very high safety rating, one of the highest in ENCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) 5 star. Info on ENCAP Test here.

    Hope this helps!

Abit off topic so sorry, but I've just been looking at that encap site - the pictures of the Rover 100 are shocking http://www.euroncap.com/content/safe...p?id1=1&id2=11

    and of the Seicento

When you think thats at 40mph, against a non-moving object, can you imagine doing 60 hitting another car doing 60? really makes you think... the damage to those cars is just unreal, I'd be amazed to see anyone walk out of either of those even at 40mph.

rover 100s are shocking, but its not surprising - they were designed in 197something..

incidentally, if you dont value your life you can get a STONKING dael on a 100 - i've seen 97 plate 100s on ebay go for just £120. thats £120 for a 7 year old car.. a half decent volvo of the same age (for example) is £4000, and it wasnt 40x as much to start with!

Yes, they were introduced late 1998. The earliest you will find is the 184bhp 530d on an S plate. 525d and 330d did not come until later, and neither did the 525d. There was no commonrail 325d in the UK. I believe the 325TDS was replaced with the 320d.

We had a fleet of Laguna 2's as company cars on the last lease term, they were troublesome, but all really had they usual Renault type symptom's like bushes, coil packs, minor electrical faults. 4 of ours were 1.8 16v's which were very underpowered, 2 of the were 1.9 DCi's (estate versions), which I quite liked. The only probelm with one of them was the fact it used to ignite itself! Twice in fact, but Renault never located the problem as both times everything melted under the bonnet.

I would have the DCi version over the petrol version and the estate is like a tardis, they are absolutely huge!

All of our reps now have Skoda's and I have an Octavia myself. If you want a cheap diesel estate/hatchback with loads of comfort extra's (and this is coming from a Renault fan himself), that wont give you loads of trouble then look no further than an Octavia 1.9 TDi Elegance (but then i'm biased now! )

No Sensei, i'm not kicking the mats to waste time, they have parted and I don't want to injure myself!

The earliest you can get a DCi unit is in Megane Mk1 P2 99- and late Mk1 P2 Laguna's 98-

The dTI unit's are just as good though, used to get 55/60mpg all day long out of our Megane 1.9dTi. Just a bit underpowered as they were only 100bhp, with a little T15 turbo.
