    Engine replacement sources required

I've been given an old Astra Sport (M-reg 1.8 16v) 1 owner from new 68k on the clock the only catch is a couple of years ago the cambelt went and he and a mate of mine rebuilt with 2nd hand cams as apparently OEM ones were too pricey.

This had been fine up until 8 months ago when the car started to sound like a diesel tractor, I've had it into a mates garage and he reckons its just cheaper to look for a replacement engine, which is where I seek your assistance I've tried a few places that I've found online with no joy he's also tried a few people but the only one who had an engine wanted £400 for it and the car just isn't worth that. the car drives fine it just sounds like somethings about to burst out of the engine when you drive it, if anyone knows of any company that may be able to source an engine please let me know as I would like to keep the car on the road as other than that its in good condition and would make a nice run around.

    Cheers

Really shouldn't be hard to get one from a breakers? Or just buy a crashed/rusty one and yank the engine.

Cheers for the tips and link, I did originally think to go for something with a bit more power as was offered a calibra turbo 4x4 with a busted transfer box for cheap, but I am just after a daily run around car if I want something a bit nippier I still have my BM whilst not really fast it'll do for now.

Plus with the amount of alarms / immobilisers (old clifford + seperate 6 point immobiliser the original owner had fitted (serious case of paranoia I feel) messing with the wiring was not something I'd have the time nor money to do.

    Cheers
