    Car insurance

Right, now i can drive and im thinking of getting my first car i need to sort out some insurance quotes (have been looking for ages)

I have used confused.com and came up with £700 quote for a 1.2 clio, 1.4 clio and a micra TPFT (Thats with Quinn direct www.quinn-direct.com). Everyone else on confused and others i have tried seem to want upwards of £1400 they can flop off

I was just wondering if theres anyone else in my boat ie 20ish no previous experience etc, any younger drivers here really... who are you guys insured with?

I am getting sick of wasting my time typing in all the ridiculous details required by insurance companies such how many toes i have on my left foot, only to be quoted some ridiculous £1500+ joke as a thanks for supplying my details to spam me with

Anyone at all here insured with Quinn? Im just hoping they are reliable because a quote of 700 when everyone else and his he bitch monkey pimp says £1400+ make me a bit weary?

Anyone else in a simmilar boat? who do you have insurance with? I should probably add i have to go on my own policy due to my dad fearing for his loooong NCB spoilsport

Micra Insurance is steep for the first year, but it drops drastically.

Mine was £660 the first year, £400 next and was £250 last year. I'm anticipating about £220 this year.

You wanna get on your own policy as soon as, as it really does get cheap quick.

I was insured with Zurich then Tesco then Churchill

Maybe its just me but for a young driver with no NCB £1400 seems like a pretty normal quote tbh...

Don't know about Quinn Direct because they have been an exclusively NI insurer for a long time.

My last insurance policy before coming to university was with Norwich Union Direct, as they are generally quite competitive for young drivers, as are I believe Admiral and Adrian Flux.

You could try vistiting a Broker in person. When I got my first car they where able to get me a much better quote than any of the 10+ companies I had phoned before.

In my case I had had a licence for years, but had untill then only driven my parents car. The broker was able to convince the insurance company to cound that as no claims, and get me a big discount, where as none of the direct companies I spoke to would listen.

I just sorted my insurance out with Admiral:

    0 NCB's, 1.6 Mini, my age - 21 = £640ish

Thats over half of what Norwich Union wanted

I assume your a young driver (sorry if wrong) - if you can get one of your parents(if they drive) as main driver and put your self as second driver. This cut my premium in half.
Also check out Norwich Union, they were cheapest for me.

As handy as that idea is, unless your parent(s) drive the car more than you it's technically fraud. Insurance companies aren't stupid and may be more reluctant to pay in the the event of a claim.

Maybe is is fraud, but how will they know you drive it 95% of the time and not your parents?

Only problem is if you crash the car they lose their NCB and won't be very happy.

I've been with Quinn for 2 months now, no problems so far but is early days. I'm 20 and my quote for a 1.4 Xsara was £580ish TPFF including £110 off as I had been named on my mums insurance. About £500 cheaper than anyone else. It was only £850 fully comp but I couldn't afford that much so i'm glad I found quinn.

Worth a go, il look into it, cheers . I do have a years no claims as a named driver which a few companies such as Quinn seem to accept- This is why, i assume, they have given me such a resonable quote.

I'l have to give them a try.

As i said in my first post getting my parents to insure the car with me as a named driver is not on the cards. Im happy to go with my own policy anyway so i can start building no claims. Atleast i already have a years named driver no claims and next week i'l have finished my pass plus course so that should reduce it aswel.

I'l investigate that when i get pass plus because i know they have joined up to it. A lot of people are with them aswel and they seem reliable

Thanks for the tips guys, appreciate it

Confused.com is utterly useless, no wonder you are getting high quotes.

Don't bother with it, get the quotes yourself. To give you an example last time I needed to renew, I used Confused. They were proud to offer me a Norwich Union policy for £1400.

Entered the *EXACT SAME* details into NU's own website and they offered the SAME policy for... £600.
