    Another new car thread

As I said in my Post in the Showroom my A4 2.5 is knocking on 124,000 Miles now, I've had it for 4 years and I just think it's time I moved on. I've been looking on ebay and Autotrader and have come up with a couple of choices:
    Audi A4 1.9 TDi 130 03/53 Reg
Nice little car, but dropping from 180 to 130bhp may hurt a little

    Audi A4 2.5 V6 TDi 02/52 Reg
Basically the updated shape but same Engine as mine.

    Audi A6 2.5 V6 TDi Y/51 Reg
My Budget can just about stretch to one.

    Mercades C270CDi 02/52 Reg
Long shot, but worth a look I think

Any opinions? Ideally I want to spend around £15K + Whatever mines worth. And I want something Refined, Diesel Economy and fast, I don't think I could take a massive drop from the 180bhp A4 without being seriously bored.

    Thanks.

Stick with the 2.5 if you want to keep some performance.

A lot of people that have mercs end up moaning about the build of them.

Yeah I know (Grandparents have a C180) but I just thought it was worth looking at. Any other ideas (Prefrebly not BMWs)?

See if you can test drive a Mondy ST-TDCI.

Better handling package than the Ghia and the 2.2 Diesel developed for use in the mondeo based Jags.

But mainly because I want someone to tell me what they're like

Ok Will look into that one, also looking at a Volvo S60 D5 but according to a mate who test drove one there like driving a River Barge.

Or as Konan says the 2.2 mondeos are meant to be good although i guess not as good as the audi. Can't get a quattro in budget can you?

I could possibly get a slightly older 2.8, but they are only fractionally faster than the 2.5 and are a lot worse on Fuel. And to be honest, I don't drive it hard enough to really need Quattro, I need a car that can hold 80-90mph comfortably on the motorway

Probably get slated for it but...

Alfa 156 2.4 JTD - belting car and engine, and very easily remapped to stupid BHP
or if you could stretch to it...
Alfa GT 1.9 JTD brand new import for £17999 OTR (UK book price £22k) only 150 BHP but looks like...

Depends on your opinion of the Italians

I know you said no BMWs but tbh they are the best cars out there - the 320d would probably suit you well, and is also rear wheel drive, so quite good on the twisties. Otherwise the volvo is about as safe as your going to get, or the mondeo as suggested.

Sorry but I just hate BMWs, For the same money you can have a far supiror Audi. Plus the 320 is way underpowered, it'd have to be a 330 at least.

As for the Alfa. Looks nice, but I'd like to get to work at least 1 day a week. I guess looking at the reps who do similar miles to me I should have a Vectra DTi, but I like something with a little more poke than your average Car. My First car was a 1.8T Audi A3 (Insurance Nightmare) Then it was on to the A4 so I've always had rapid Audis, and I like them a lot.

Yes, the 320d is clearly inferior to the Audi, and the 330d is about the same...

Bollocks is it. Unless you've modified it, the stock speed for the old 2.5 TDI to 60 is about 8.7-8.8 seconds varying by model.

Edit: The SE model is 9.9s!

You may be mixing kW and Bhp there - your Audi is more likely a 132kW.

BTW I highly recommend the Alfa 156 2.4 20V - currently have one and it is sh*t loads faster than any VAG diesel. No problem whatsoever in 30k miles. Oh, and it can be remapped to 210 bhp (or 154kW)
