I thought that you lost your license and you had to apply for a provisional again and take the theory and practical tests, i remember that from learning my theory questions ( did actually get that question in my theory test, 35/35 i got ) couldn't remember if it was 6 or 12 points

from personal experience. They take your full licence away to be updated by those lovely people at the DVLA and they send you a provisional back automatically (once you have sent them a cheque for the privelege) you then need to sit your theory and practical test. You don't have to wait any time for this, so you could be back to a full licence within weeks (if it wasn't for sending paperwork away and waiting for test spaces, it could be days). The amount of time without a full licence is not recorded and never asked by any insurer. They also do not ask if you have re-sat your test at any point in time.

In my case it was 18 months before i got my full license back, for various reasons.

Surely though, you still have the 6 points on your licence?

There is no way in the world he was doing 25MPH. He was probably showing off to his mates. Let's hope that they all learnt a tough lesson.

    So what actually happened?

Theres the 106 with the missing wheel, and the rover stuck to the lamp-post, and then a third (greenish) car featured on the last photo.
    - Do you have a zoomed-out shot fo the whole layout?

Just a thought re the 'just lost the back end', what would happen if you lost the front left wheel of a car? Surely the car would dip forward and you might loose any kind of traction on the rear right, possibly making the car spin around.

What is odd is what could have pulled the wheel off like that - the steering axle is still attached so it does look like it kind of got pulled off.

Obviously I don't know anything about the road layout, but could he have caught his front left on a kerb, pulling the wheel out and making the car spin/bounce into the others?

Absolutely, but this still wouldn't be 'just losing' the back end...

Maybe they didn't consider hitting kerbs anything out of the ordinary

Or maybe the car actually broke on a pot hole or something.. and they didn't notice the clunk they would have heard.. or or.. yeah ok.. they screwed up

It was a straight road, there are cars parked all along either side of the road, the road is pretty uneven and badly maintained (so, like most UK roads then).

    Google Map

To the right of the marker is a black car and a red car, he was travelling from right to left, his crash started at about the red car and ended at the black car.

As for your suggestion that he lost the back end after losing a wheel, well, he'd still have to lose a wheel in the first place! I assume the wheel was removed somehow in the collision with the Rover.

if i were the owner of any of those cars i'd be praying hard that he had all the wing mirrors etc declared, otherwise it'll be a long uphill battle to get the money out of him..

looking at the map - perhaps he came round that open junction too fast (pulling a right into the road), struggled to hold it together for 20 yards, then started piling into cars. perhaps the rear end did 'just come out' but it maybe had something to do with the fact he was doing 40 round the bend then lifted off in a fwd car

I'm going to assume he turned left into that street as one of his friends lives in that direction, that and you'd have to be a complete idiot to turn right into my street at excessive speeds (you wouldn't have any idea if there was anything approaching)

It's all very well slagging the kid off but yes he was an inexperienced driver and yes he probably was trying to impress his mates. With the amount of people learning and passing their test, its inevitable a few accidents like this will happen and it will always be the minority who make a bad name for the majority.

I just hope the kid learns from his experience and am glad that no one was hurt.
