    Kid passes test...

    ...two days later:

This happened just yards from my house last night. Kid is about 17, just passed two days ago, had a car full of mates. Says he was only doing '25mph'.

None of them could exactly explain what happened although from my experience of this road I'd say he was going way too fast, not paying attention, hit an uneven part of the road causing him to lose control of the steering, hit a car parked on the right, swerved over to the otherside and hit the cars parked on the left before (and god knows how he did this given the small space of road and cars on either side) spinning the car over 90 degrees.

There are no skid marks at all so he didn't brake.

He managed to clip the back of an escort damaging a rear light and putting a small dent in it, do some slight damage to an escort van parked in front of that, totally wrote off the Rover 25 and pushed it into the telegraph pole causing it to almost wrap around it, hit a Mondeo and move it about 2 foot up the curb and finally smacked the side of the Astra, whilst also removing an entire wheel, etc from his own car and causing serious damage to the drivers side even though all the major damage was caused to cars parked on the left

Aparently it's his 'dads' car and he was only insured as a named driver. Sounds like a bit of insurance 'fronting' there given the fact his mates said he'd 'spent a fortune' doing the car up. It also had neons. I think that alone sums everything up.

Quote of the night came from his mate who tried to explain everything with "the back end just went out". Yeah, sure it did mate... at 25mph.... on a straight road

Congratulations on being able to laugh off doing 60Mph on ice, and quoting an entire post. I've edited it for you.

On a more positive note, they are some good photos Oakey.

Wow, he must of being going much faster than 25mph to do that much damage.

    Was anyone hurt?

    For a start it's a 200 not a 25

Hmm, don't know what to say really. I can't talk as I used to drive a similiar way (Athlough I had payed nearly £20k for the car, so I was a litlle more careful, and it was a grippier car) I remember too well going down a 60 limit at 105 one night (like 23:30) late to meet someone. God I look back at it now and think what an Idiot I was.

It is true that after you've passed your test you feel on a high and that you can do anything, although for me that was short lived as 2 weeks after I slid my car on a patch of ice and nearly had a heart attack.

Kid wants to be made to pay for every penny of damage he has done, and for all the distress he will have caused.

Dear god. This is the sort of thing that can make me at time ashamed to be a young male driver.

That driver, ladies and gentlemen, is a numpty. I somehow doubt the back end of his fwd car just "went out". In a way, I would like to see his insurance invalidated if he was not abiding by it's contract; if he was "fronting", but I'd sooner see the damage he caused to others fixed.

Anyway, I for one would be driving carefully down a road of parked cars, purely because of the damage I could do just to my own car, let alone all the others parked about.

oh this now reminds me why im gonna be raped by insurance companies. Im learning to drive so naturally looking at cars myself and some quotes ive had..... well i couldnt believe how they could justify it, looking at this its now easy to see why. Numpty, give him a clip round the ear from me please.

and 25mph to move all them cars like that and REMOVE a wheel from his own...... yeah ok.

Something *very* similar happened down this road last year. 'Twas 2am and there was an almighty *bump* pause *bang**bang* pause *skid* *bang*, and assorted alarms going off.

Twonk (admittedly aged 22-23 or so) had taken the curve way too fast, sideswiped a van on this side of the road, which launched him over the other side, hit a Pug 206 (less than a month old) which in turn flattened a lamp post. To his credit (although I suspect more luck than skill) the car managed to stay pointing down the road, where it sat approximately 150 yds further on, minus nearside wheel and assorted suspension bits as above "in its own juices" as they say.

The driver and his passenger (who had left a selection of his DNA on the inside of the windscreen) decided they were "going to just walk home". Then when the onlookers jointly suggested that it was "probably not a good idea mate" he got in and tried several times to start it, and couldn't work out why the ignition key wasn't working. Pointing to his wheel sitting on the pavement didn't seem to enlighten him either. I gave him the benefit of the doubt. They did leave before the police arrived, but the driver's mate had some very prominent (previous) facial disfigurement that gave the police a pretty good idea who the passenger was, and it didn't "smell" stolen.

The only words I heard were "I was only doing 25mph mate".

I do have pics, but they are sat on the other hard drive at the mo

About a month later, an airhead blonde 17yo female managed to shorten her "tuned by TurboTechnics" Citroen by about a foot, and turn it through 180 degrees by colliding with the same van (well lit, not in a stupid place). She got out and ran off screaming, leaving the car in neutral and slowly making it's own way down the road.

    Which was nice.

Well if he is only named third party then thats fine. His dad will loose his no claims, everyone else will get their car fixed, his insurance risk goes up and he lost the 'fortune' he spent on his 'dads' car

It is amazing how much damage can be done at low speeds though. a girl in the office aqua planed down a street at about 10mph, bumped a kerb almost front on and caused £800 of damage to one corner of her car. This included a replacement alloy of the one that cracked.

Lets just hope he's learned from his mistakes and doesn't end up killing anyone next time he wants to show off he should be made an example of, it's drivers like him that gives so many other drivers a bad name

12 points now for a new driver before they lose their license? aren't you on 'probation' for 2 years after you pass your test?

indeed. 6 points within the first 2 years and you need to sit a test again. You donæt actually loose your license (it's not a ban), but you are reduced to a provisional until you pass another test. After you do this your license still has the original issue date on it.

It's 6 points for the first 2 years.

This sort of view seems to become a bit sterotypical of new drivers.. I'm sure there is many new drivers out there that are very careful and wary, and don't want to go round showing off.
