    Bloody scallies

    Feh.

Last night, my tiny little innocent, (unspoilt by modding hands) Saxo got the screwdriver treatment, and someone decided to rummage through my glovebox. The lock on the passenger side is screwed, which i'm assuming is how they got in, but other than that, nothing was broken or stolen (including the citroen standard CD player - now i know for sure how crap they must be )

The contents of my glovebox were scattered over the passenger seat when i got back. I thought "that's weird, i don't remember getting all that out" then after about 5 seconds, it twigged. At first I was relieved that they hadn't smashed a window, but now I'm wondering how much it's going to cost to get a lock replaced. It's got a remote central locking system, so, as I've no idea how these things work - is something going to have to be reprogrammed or something to have a new lock fitted? Is it something any garage could do, or have I got to take it to the crapping expensive citroen garage to sort it? (i've still got the Key ID card that came with it, if that's of any relevance)

I'm thinking they may have got in because of the tomtom magnetic plate on my dashboard, rummaging around to see if it's in the car (it wasn't, i'm not that daft). Anyone got any good alternative ideas for securing the tomtom bluetooth GPS unit whilst driving?

edit: just realised i meant to post this in the cars section. Bah.

When my 106 got broken into they also damaged the skin of the door - so a new lock with some door fixage came to about 100 quid (not at dealer's). If its only the lock it might be cheaper for you, but it depends if you want the exact same lock on passenger side or you are happy with an extra key.

Not that bothered about an extra key TBH - I usually use the remote anyway. On the subject of remotes - This might sound like a daft question, but I don't know the answer - if I change the battery in the lock remote, it won't lose the code or anything stupid like that will it?

I don't know how it is on citroens, but if you change the battery within 10 minutes it should keep it, and if it doesn't sometimes putting the key in and then pressing the button would re introduce them.

I need the version and year to get precise info, but this should be correct.

Unlock the vehicle using the key
within 30 seconds press key lock button twice
    synchronization procedure complete
confirm success by locking and unlocking

Replacement keys can only be programmed using diagnostic equipment.

You shouldn't need to reprogram anything in order to change a lock, the alarm/locking/immobiliser shouldn't be affected, but I could be wrong.

Ace. My remote appears to be losing power, so i'll just get a battery and get it sorted.

Same thing happened to my car. Key/lockset cost £378+labour+VAT. Insurance company queried why the whole lot needed replacing. Apparently, for my car (Mazda), they don't sell invidual locks, so you have to replace the whole lot. May be different for Citroen.
