    Silverstone with LoT and HoT

I finally had my first track day on Friday. The event at Silverstone was organised by Lotus on Track and Honda on Track, and was just superb in every respect. Everyone was friendly, helpful and the briefing and instructors were great too.

It was good for me because I found out that everything I've done to the car has been worthwhile; with Tom from TGM Sport Racing behind the wheel, it was happily keeping up with the VX's and Elises... things that cost more than 4 times the price of my humble CRX

However it has to be said I have substantially less tallent than Tom... infact my first time around turn 1 at speed ended in a lovely 360dg spin at about 70mph!

Anyway the rest of the day went without a hitch. The instructor helped me with turning and braking points, and after Tom showed me exactly how far you could push the car I really started to enjoy it! Fairly well killed a set of tyres (see pics below) and scared a few passengers. Throroughly enjoyable day

Nice, the drive home must have felt pretty boring.

Actually the drive home was a battle against the failing alternator. It was like Apollo 13, trying to use as few amps as possible!

Tell you what though... driving at speed on a race track is soooo much safer than any kind of driving on the public road. Everyone's there for the same reason, everyone's curtious (sp?), and there's so much space.

I've got some in car video that I'll sort out once my PC is working again.

There's a Ginetta of some description in the penultimate picture I linked to. It was quicker than the Elises', but as Tom proved, it's far more about driver skill than the size of one's wallet (or ego!)

If you only ever do one track day, just get on and do it. It probably helps to be in the right frame of mind... i.e. the thought of crashing or damaging my car never entered my head - don't track your brand new family wagon or something that will make you cry if you bend it.

It was just balls out, drive the nuts off it mode, all day. So yesterday I discovered I'd blown the head gasket
