    Driving abroad

    Hey guys,

i'm 17 and i passed a few months ago, but i want to drive when i go on holiday this summer to hong kong. I always thought that you need to get an International Driving Permit and that you need to have at least 3 years on your licence. But when I looked into it I got a bit confused.
On the RAC and AA website it says that a IDP is not needed but recommened. Does this mean I can drive when I goto HK? or are there any other requirements such as age?

    Thanks in advance.

Insurance isn't necessarily the same as here.

In Australia the car is insured, not the driver. Third party insurance is part of normal car registration for any personal injury caused (not to property).

Every policy will have a larger excess for younger or inexperienced drivers.

Some policies will have a minimum age requirement eg 30, especially if the model is in a high risk category.
