    4x4 Mum

Well the missus has decided she wants a 4x4...
She wanted a Frontera, took me about 2 weeks to get that idea out of her head, stubborn cow...

So, she looking at spending upto 4k on something that'll fit 2 German Shepards in the back.
I said an Astra Estate would be fine but she wants a 4x4, I've tried arguing with her but it keeps coming back down to the "Well you have 2 Cav Turbo's, you've got what you want now I want what I want..."

Hilux Surf/4runner? Just avoid the 2.4TD engine, they go pop with alarming regularity.

My cage once held two Shepard security dogs in the back rather well. Excellent bit of kit 'cause you can leave the boot open when its hot.

    Good for moving junk aswell

how about you get a sensible car, and every time you go to the petrol pumps, pour half of what you buy away?

How about if you have nothing interesting/relivant to say you dont say anything?
Having been driving the works Vectra SRi130 Diesel my CavTurbo is actually better on fuel...
She wants a 4x4, I'm not going to argue, its a personal choice on her part, people are allowed to do things you dont agree with, be it installing Windows or driving a 4x4...

I did say to her that due to weight and everything else a 4x4 would drink more, and seeing as diesel is more expensive per litre but she wants what she wants, not sure something like a CRV would be big enough, she was looking at one of them Suzuki Rhino fatboy things but I cant see that being big enough.

My dad has a Suzuki Jimny, it's well made but it's probably a bit small for two big dogs. Maybe a Grand Vitara or something? They last forever. Not brilliant to drive, but then again no 4X4s are unless it's a Range Rover Sport or a BMW X5, but they're just unnecessary

Long wheelbase Landy matey. Pick a decent one up for about 4k, perhaps 10 or so years old (bulletproof tho). Have a look in the back of Land Rover Owner or something. Good cars, and if they do break, they're like meccano - you shouldn't have a problem fixing it

I think you need to explain to her that her budget is almost certainly not going to buy the shiney 4x4 she covets - this sort of money we are talking very old cars - Land Rover Discoverys on M, N and P plates, old import Hilux Surfs and what have you. Probably a world away from those shiney Range Rover Sports and X5's she keeps seeing at the health club.

5lab, interesting suggestions but you dont be getting an Allroad (Which is A6 based, btw) for this budget and although it's 4wd I would imagine she doesnt want a 4wd car becuase she appreciates the traction advantage of having all wheels driven, but becuase she likes the styling. A V70 AWD will not hit the spot as it looks.. like a Volvo Estate.

lol you seem to know everything she doesnt want has she said what she does want?
i mean a fatboy rhino is just gay, they look quite cool when your about 12, and they inside arnt actually big enough, if thats the kind of car she wants then it sounds like she wants one for an image coz two big dogs in the back of that arnt going to be comfortable, what about an old range rover?

and 5lab i dont think you can get either of those for 4 grand tbh

    CRV Trig

Mine holds 1 GSD with ease, sure 2 wouldnt be a problem. Pulls a ton and a quarter...and has sensible 4wd so its only used when needed. With my job mine gets used a lot and Ive yet to find any off road stuff it cant handle....sure its not a landy but it does what I want and its rock solid reliable...It is thirsty though, but mine has roof bars with ladders on and is pulling a trailor most days....
