The tread must be 1.6mm across the center 3/4 (Thats quite self explanatory) and the OUTER edge of the tyre (Edge nearest the curb and furthest from center of the car).

So basically needs to be 1.6mm except the inner edge but you do need to repeat all the above
Oh crikey! i'll never remember all of that!

Btw if anyone wants a copy of the show me tell questions e-mailing! pm me

Here's a couple from the set of questions i have, so you can compare yours

Open the bonnet and identify where you would check the engine oil level and tell me how you would check that the engine has sufficient oil.

Point to dipstick, tell Examiner how you would check the oil level against the minimum/maximum markers. Remember to say that you would wipe it

Tell me how you would check that the brake lights are working.

Operate brake pedal, make use of reflections in windows, garage doors, etc, or ask someone to help.

Tell me where you would find the information for the recommended tyre pressures for this car and how tyre pressures should be checked.

Manufacturer’s recommended tyre pressures are shown on label attached to the door pillar on the driver’s side, or manufacturers handbook use a reliable pressure gauge, check and adjust pressures when tyres are cold, don’t forget spare tyre, remember to refit valve caps.

Tell me how you would check that the brakes are working before starting a journey.

Brakes should not feel spongy or slack. Brakes should be tested as you set off Vehicle should not pull to one side.

They're very similar, somes identical but some isn't

I guess different instructors word them differently

If it helps my bit about tyres is like this:

Tell me how you would check the tyres to ensure that they have sufficient tread depth and that their general condition is safe to use on the road.

No cuts and bulges, 1.6mm of tread depth across the central ¾ of the breadth of the tyre and around the entire outer circumference.

    Had my first lesson!

It was great! I didnt stall or crash (well I didnt change gear either). I drove for a while and it was scary, lol!

Its hard knowing how big your car is, definatly more hard then I expected.

Only thing is, well he is a good teacher and all, but he does seem a bit strict, but hes holding back as im new. Also he always slurs other companys lol, like bsm and that, saying how they do this and that.

I got a 2hour lesson with him next week, but I dont know whether I should change? I know this sounds wrong but I would like someone a bit younger who I can have jokes with.

I dont know what I should do....ill see what the 2 hour lesson is like I guess.

I will see how the lesson is like I guess, I just dont like the fact that I drive right in the centre so I see alot of people I know, and its kind of embrassing !

Anywhere I can read up on clutch control? Also the theory test?

Just little things like when I mention a competitor he would look up and laugh, and I was like....ummm ok lol.

Clutch control = lift, pause and lift slowly, lift completely. That should occur in about three quarters to 1 second.

    I agree, strict is good

There's a hell of a lot to learn initially so you need to give your brain gto process what it's learnt, as for how big the car is, you'll soon learn spacial awareness and be able to judge your space better

And why feel embarressed when you see people you know? your learning a new skill, everybody who drives has been there at some point, and the best thing to do is don't acknowledge people you know, waving is at people in the street is a distraction and your ADI won't like it.

As for clutch control, it will come! If your having trouble feeling for the bite watch for the bonnet to move slightly

As for your theory, get a copy of the highway code and a good theory test question book
( I used BSM's, it had 894 test questions, i could go through the book and get less than 10 wrong! ) you need to practice the Hazard P, i used the Focus ones and they were very good
in the meantime sign up at the DSA Practice Theory

Another useful site Driving Test Success

1.6mm across the middle 2/3 or 3/4 is an adequate answer. It was for the head of the test centre who took me out for my test

Before setting off on long journeys check tyre pressure, tread wear, cuts, bulges etc.

edit: watch thisdriving instructor video (from mr fishcakes site) cracks me up

    I had someone worse

Seriously, don't bother pissing about. Your instructor sounds decent enough. Give it a few more lessons before you re-evaluate

Nah Im not, I have a 2hour lesson booked with him on Thursday, and I just booked a 2hour session with that bsm guy on wednesday. If I find that the BSM is better, I will choose him, if I find hes worse I will stick with the original guy.

I think that its better to piss about now, spending that extra to find a instructor your comfortable with rather than spending more re-taking lessons and tests tbh.

How do I prove Im a student btw?

    Thanks.
