Why not a local independent?
I agree, there are lots of really good independent instructors out thereOriginally Posted by schmunk
Chances are if you go with AA or BSM then you'll get a trainee teaching you, when you do have a lesson check to see what colour license they have, if it's green they are fully qualified, if it's pink they are trainees
ask yer mates, find one who's really happy with their instructor, ask them

Not really - BSM (and the AA I think) operate on a franchise basis so basically you're getting an independant guy he's just stuck with a (very) expensive franchise to pay for. My dad's actually a BSM instructor and he'd say the most important thing is to find a good instructor (irrespective of whether their franchised) either by word of mouth or by trial and error. If you don't like an instructor or it's not working for you then just pack them in and try someone else.Originally Posted by shelley bda
If you're in the loughborough/leicester area then i'd recommend my Dad (obviously) as he often takes on students who've had bad experiences with other instructors.
Go with word of mouth - get a good independant that has plenty of recommendations.
You guys sure?
Just called up my cousin and a few mates, most of them are on AA or BSM and one is using a dads friend who is fully booked, charges 16 quid. Also, my cousin uses a friend that charges £15, but I dont trust him.
Some guy down my road charges £17 quid, should I just go for AA though? Dont really want to mess around to be honest.
Thanks.
Tis upto you who you choose, just make sure that whoever you choose has that green license displayed in their windowOriginally Posted by Noni
Good luck
I would go with someone who is recommended.
I don't care whether they are AA, RAC, BSM, independent, black, white, gay, tall, short...
As long as they have a good track record, thats what I'm interested in.
So speak to you mates, see who they recommend
BSM ftw! sayign that it toook me 3 atempts. but they were very helpful. and i got a years free AA Breakdown service.

Deffinatly a local independant. I've heard that AA/BSM drivers are in general over loaded with students which can't be good.
I'm using a local independant with 3 cars/instructors. £190 for first 10 lessons then £20/lesson from then on. The selling point for me was that the company doesn't advertise, gets fully booked by word of mouth
Where abotus are you from? someone on here may be able to recomend someone to you.
I know a very good guy who works around the luton area... he taught me a few years back and he was fantastic
Thats pretty impressive seeing as the BSM is owned by RAC.Originally Posted by MantisCSS
Word of mouth is definitely the way to get a decent instructor. I went with the BSM but only because the instructor was excellent and well recommended by my mate.
rofl where the hell do you live to get lessons at under 20 quid an hour, down south its between 20 and 25. i did it with an independant passed first time all was good
dont just go with aa or bsm just because they look the best coz the have a million new cars and they are everywhere it may not be the case, personally i cba to pay more for them
Im from Redbridge, any reccomendations would be great.
Thank you.
I made my choice based on recommendation and the car I would be driving. I ended up going with a guy that works for the AA, cause he got a few of my mates through the test and I got a 1.6 Focus instead of a tiny corsa
