...i know these are quite understated cars yet liked on here by a few forumites and i must admit, for the price they seem to go for i'm considering going after one. I was just wondering if they're 150bhp as standard, what sort of gains are to be made from a decent exhaust with manifold and an air filter?. I had a look at one (new arrival) in a local breakers yard when i was picking up some parts the other day and the standard cast manifold looked a bit weedy really...

Good choice! If i was to buy a car for the daily grind to work - it would probably be a Primera GT.

As for tuning - well theyre N/A and as such not particulicularly easy to tune. An exhaust / filter / decat would get you several BHP. If you were to go with more aggressive cam's etc then you can get to around 200bhp.

The SR20DE engines themselves are totally bombproof you can do what you want, from heavy N/A tune, to bolting a turbo on and going from there. Stripped my SR20DET down after 150,000 miles and it was in remarkable condition, just worn rockers. Everything else was fine. The SR20DE will go on forever.

150bhp is standard with the GT version, 130bhp with the other versions.

Btw, most guys in America (with their Infiniti G20's... which are basically exactly the same) add turbo's to theirs.... HOWEVER, 90% of them seem to blow their engines after a while.

Edit: The upholstery isn't nice though... the none-leather versions are just nasty.. apart from that, inside and out it's nice!

GT's usually around the £1500 mark.


So a lot cheaper than that Volvo

the manifold is where BIG gains (comparatively) are made with the PrimGT.

I think the "Hotshots" manifold with a decent exhuast will see you an extra 12bhp.

can I suggest that you get the car, forget the manifold and spend dough on Yokohama front tyres,some normal rears (that sorts the understeer penchant they have) and get new shocks if they're floppy...

150 equine units is plenty dude....

Power is nothing without control...ask a Mk 2 Astra GTE 16v driver (if you find one alive )

I love Primera GT's....they are MR Q car
