ST is a 2.5L Turbo... def not a diesel. I guess thats just me dreaming. Had to sell the Cooper S to get a more "family friendly" car. Some how I ended up with a Fiesta! How did that work.

For example.
Out of your initial suggestions, I'd suggest only the Focus or the Astra. Neither will let you down reliability-wise unlike the 307, or be an american pile of rubbish like the Chrysler. And The Impreza may have four doors but it sure will drink petrol

I have a brand new Citroen C4 (1.6 petrol, though) and so far I've found it to be a great car. I really would recommend trying one.
I was in a 2005 Peugeot 307 last week, and inside it was soooooo much crappier than the C4, which is supposed to be essentially the same car (built on the same chassis). That said, the HDi engine was very smooth and quiet, although it rolled all over the shop - the C4's got better (harder) suspension.
I don't know about reliability, but I did some research before starting the lease, and there's no obvious mention of problems.
The mk 4 (last generation) Astra has quite a bit more boot space than the new ones I think, if you can cope with a slightly older car than you planned for.
1 to 2 years old you'll easily get a 2 ltr diesel Zafira dont know if you'll get the new style with the 1.9. Has a throw stuff in boot its huge. Also got 7 seats for family nights out.
c-max is not a bad drive either sis in law has one though its a 1.6 petrol but it wasnt a bad drive. Similar to a Meriva in size.
Zafira is a nice car - Nan's got the 1.8 Petrol and its not half bad. 2ltr diesel and it will fly
Test drove the focus c-max yesterday and really liked it. I will probably plump for one of those.
Just waiting to find one with the right spec and price.
Thanks all
What about a Ford Fiesta?

Ok, i see. Nice though
I quite like the Fiesta. We will be changing our car next year or sooner as we now have a daughter to think about.
