    Re: Corsair HX850

That was my thinking as well, but I don't see why nobody does :S
They could always pull a Thermaltake and put a 430W sticker on a 250W PSU...

    Re: Corsair HX850

The reason there's a lack of very low wattage PSUs, is that they cost pretty much the same to design/manufacture as a 350-400W PSU. Considering the small market for these PSUs (remember, the majority of non-informed users think they need a 1000W PSU for their unclocked dual core with a single GPU), the manufacturers have no profit to gain here. Sure, they could make one for you out of the goodness of their hearts, but that never made anyone any money.

yep doubt there is much cost difference in making a 400w psu or a 500w psu. just a few lower spec components and its done. with the quantity of parts ordered for psu manufacture i wont be surprised if a lot of top spec parts are still in the lower end psus.

    Re: Corsair HX850

I'm not sure I understand what you wrote. You bought a 1KW OCZ from Scan and they replaced it with a 1KW Corsair instead of a similarly priced 850W?

    Re: Corsair HX850

no not that, i had a ocz 1000w that broke so i sent it back but there was like a 2week waiting period to get it replaced, and i couldnt do 2weeks without a pc so i bought the HX850, with i must say is outstanding, but because they dont sell the ocz one now , they sent me the HX1000w modular one to replace the broken ocz one,

    hope u understand now

    Re: Corsair HX850

Ah I see, makes sense. Depends which OCZ you had, if you had the GameXStream you are much better off with a Corsair.

yeah it was the elite x stream i think , it had broke twice in the past and they replaced with the same one, so annoying doing cable management 3 times, hopefully wont have to with this one

Then that sums it up, The EliteXStreams aren't even as bad.

    Re: Corsair HX850

when the ocz psu died did it take out any of your other components? the corsair unit should do fairly well, although its odd that 2 psus broke so easily. do you have a surge supressor/line filter in place?

Could someone please tell me if this PSU is loud, or does it make any annoying sounds, I'ce heard some Tagan PSU and they make some strange buzzing noise. Under game play is this PSU loud? Thanks in advance

    Re: Corsair HX850

If it's like the 1000HX it'll be quite noisy under load due to the high fan speed, but no major electrical noise unless you stress it to its max.

    Re: Corsair HX850

The HX series PSUs are built by CWT but, are not simply rebranded CWT units.

The db info is on our website, linked in the stickies.
