Yup, I'll be leaving a log of my progress here, and I'll probably take some shots of the hardware and some of the build process, not that there should be much involved in that regard.

The more complex/lengthy part of the process will be experimenting with different software on the box.

I also need to RMA my 7800GS, got the authorisation from komplett yesterday, now I just need to pop in in the mail and get the replacement so I can boot up in Linux, couldn't be bothered fiddling around with ATi drivers/Xorg configuration in the moment.

Instead I'll focus on my server box, I decided to take a different approach to it's software installation.

that looks like a pretty powerfull implementation. I'm not sure you'd want to stick extra services like NAS on it though - its really designed to sit at the edge of a network rather than at the core like a NAS box would be.

I was thinking along the lines of a 533mhz MiniITX board for that, 256-512mb of RAM and 10gb laptop harddisk, to run internet, webpages, ftp.

Then something a little more powerful, to run under my telly, providing NAS, MythTV and NAS.

I haven't really thought it out though...

MythTV is a little tougher to accommodate though, I haven't looked into that much myself, even though I should :/

If you are going to use DVB-T cards, then MythBackend should will easily run on minimal hardware, as long as you have enough memory and IO bandwidth.

The frontends are a different matter as they have to run the GUI and decode and display the video. Although as the EPIA platforms have MPEG-2 hardware acceleration, this isn't a massive problem.

There is also MiniMyth. A ready rolled, network bootable, Myth Frontend distro.

Good thing about mythtv is you can stream the tv over a network to your computer, pretty neat.

Oh, I sent my 7800GS back to Komplett today, I've decided to ask them to refund the card and let me order a case and PSU for a new build instead of micky mousing with this ole thing (damn you Metier9 ). Now I just need to wait for a reply

Hurrah, the LinITX package was sent out yesterday afternoon, should have it tomorrow, fingers crossed

Wohoo!!!.. I got the package today already, I accidentally had it delivered to my old address, forgot to update my address in my account, but thankfully the neighbour signed for it, and I knew her, lucky for me I'm still in the same city lol.

Anyway, huge thumbs up to FedEx for overnight delivery to Ireland, and support phone queues so short it's just scary. Everyone should use this courier.

Now I just need to dig out my digital camera and take some shots of the gear, the Light box is even more sturdy than it looks on the LinITX website, the only plasticy parts are the silver looking bits on the side, and you don't even need them really, that's just there to stop the top part from being slid off accidently.

Today is going to be fun.
