In the grand tradition of this thread ere's another update.

I've been working very hard today on it, next on my list of things to do was to cut out a blow hole in the top plastic of the case.

I set to work with the dremmel, and cut and sanded one out,it still needs widening slightly which I will do in a mo but I thought I'd give u an idea of how it looks at the mo

Piccys (As usual click on them for bigger versions)

I'll post a pic of the final blowhole later with a shot of it with all the sides and front panels back in place .

I've tried mounting the new cooler on the mobo and it fits a treat. I've finished the top blowhole bar a bit of final filing of the hole.

The daily update is here as usual.

Today I spent most of the day working so couldnt do as much as I wanted to, but I've got a lot closer to the end of the project.

I spent most of the time soldering together and atx extension cable and extending the P4 connector so that it reaches far enough.

Piccys of the cable work first :

    Mmmm dairy milk hehe

And finally I got to put the main parts of the system together for the first time. I will be installing the cpu and memory tommorow and will have a crack at booting for the 1st time , but here's the pic of everything bar the cd drive in place.

An important step today, I attempted to boot the pc up for the first time.

I gave myself a 50/50 chance of it booting first time due to abuse I gave the motherboard.

I've not had a chance to look at the mac switching circuit so I used a spare bulgin switch to get it on for the first time.

A very nervous me installed the cpu and ram from my shuttle and crossed everthing, to my surprise it booted first time! WOOOOOOOOOOOT! Gigabyte mobo;s are hardy beasts.
I've not installed windoze as I'm waiting on a sound card before I do that.

I also installed the Hard disc led for the first time its mounted behind the apple logo on the front and is a bloo led.

I heard the fans for the first time together and was shocked it was all really noisey , I then remembered I had my gfx card running at 12v for the first time, so I stopped the fan with my finger to hear erm nothing this rig is inaudable wooot. I need to get a zalman cooler for it but money is tight at the moment .

Here are the pics: (Click on them for larger versions)

Everything is ready for boot off:

    We have booooot!!!!

Mmmmm bloooooo the hdd led in action:

    Hupdats hupdates.

I've spent today fiting the cd rom drive. I had my first balls up , I hadnt checked to see that where I put the cd rom drive didnt fowl the feet. Unfortunatly it did in the first place I installed it. Idiot.

Luckily I just extended the slot in the metal casing of case, I hadnt touched the plexi so this is fine.

After some mad dremmeling I know have the drive in place woot.

Piccys (Click on them to open larger versions)

Action shot with lots of sparks thanks to my house mate for taking this pic

I got rid of the mounting point for the 120mm fan

    CD rom placement numero uno:

Now to attack the slot area

Plan 2 raising the cdrom up

    Yet another update from meee:

Today I spent some time cleaning the sides , one has celotape marks on one of the side panels and there is lots of dust from the cutting on them so I cleaned them up in the bath. I've some novus #1 and #2 arriving soon for sorting out some fine scratches on the front and side panels.

After that I spent some time fitting everything back into the case for the umpteenth time.

Next up was the switch gear , I managed to break a glass reed switch but it wasnt required so I bypassed it. Next up using some1's circuit design I rigged up the switches to the mobo. I'm unsure as to whether this is going to work but I'll try it out when my sound card arrives. If it doesnt I'll make one up and ditch the mac circuit.

    Piccys:

First off me cleaning in the bath , tis ok no nudity hehe

Now the mac switch circuit, I forgot to take pics of me hooking up the connectors but I doubt many would want to see them anyway

I'm writing this update on Project Bad Apple so its fair to say its going well .

Today I moved everything over to the case from my shuttle as it will be going soon. I had to buy a new graphics card as I killed my old one in a gfx cooler incident :-(

I also order a new sound card as the onboard audio ports are no more.

Anyway here is some piccys (Click on pics for bigger images as normal):

    The new parts:

Pics of the case complete almost

All I have to do now is sort out the switches as the circuit didnt work. I should have it 100% done by tommorow wooot
