My 360 is freezing :(

Over the last week or so my xbox has started to freeze. I'll be playing any game and a red matrix appears on the screen like a chess board. It only flashes for a split second before the console freezes displaying the last frame of the game. No red lights appear on the console and it has to be restarted.

It's well ventilated and I've tried the various troubleshooting techniques described on the xbox support site. Anyone got any suggestions before I take this to Microsoft?

EDIT: It just crashed immediatly after getting to the dash after power on. The red matrix stayed so I managed to take a picture with my webcam:

That sucks. I can't think of anything to fix it; you're probably best sending it off.

Does that apply to the UK. I think I read somewhere that only applied to the US, but I might be going a bit mad.

You can still get it replaced, they won't like it, but it's within your rights, see the other thread here.

try the rapping a towel living it near the boiler, rumor has it that the solder has become loose

Thats a problem that you have to get Microsoft to fix. Mine did it so i sent it back and they gave me a whole new console. it took about 10 days from me sending if off and this was christmas time.

What error did you get to get a new console?

A few things to try:

Pressing down on the area just behind the front of the DVD-Drive, "squash" the console a bit by pushing from both sides, turn it on an I bet you it works... It'll be the solder cracking.

You can also open it up and do the heatgun trick, or use the towel trick as mentioned earlier in the thread.
