    PS3 Folding

Well we knew that the Cell processor -- which makes the PS3 a pretty cheap supercomputer, along with its myriad other roles -- was well suited to the task of crunching numbers for Stanford's Folding@Home project, but there's no way we could have expected the unbelievable impact made by 35,000 some gamers in only a few days.

I can't believe this, would be good if the PS3 could support the HeXus.net UD team!

Yeah I read that earlier. While the PS3 has far more users folding than any other platform, the TFLOP performance is far greater than the number of extra users on other platforms would provide. Pretty damn impressive.
EDIT: Ignore what I said. You'll read why later

Yeah having a couple on the UD team is great, but seeing as they update their software less often then Clarkson updates his style, we might be in for a wait.

The GPU users seem to be doing well too, considering the low number of active CPU's.

It makes me laugh that most of the PS3's are doing nothing much but folding, probably because you can't do much else with ps3's at the momnet hehe

Apart from play games and watch movies you mean? Why people keep posting pointless incorrect comments about the PS3 is beyond me. There should be a fanboy thread to let people get it out their systems and argue all day long.

This isnt a specific go at you TiG, just a general observation on the forums over the last couple of weeks.

Is that why the PS3 is the fastest selling home console ever?

And maybe you should learn to take a sarcastic remark as a sarcastic remark

Not according to most of the 'sarcastic' people around here.

The sales figures released by Sony are an estimate though, but regardless the PS3 has not sold as badly as many xbox fans had wanted.

the ps3 launched with 3x as much stock on the shelves, but sold 2x as many units, as the xbox 360

roughly 1 in 3 ps3 units remained unsold, out of the launch allocation.

yes, there was a LOT of stock available, and it's a good thing - but that's still pretty damning when the latest reports suggest about 20,000 pre orders for ps3 were canceled by people sick of being mucked around
