my media center box makes less noise, and that is a real mini pc.
passive CPU
but the elite not been fabbed smaller i find bizzare, surely its in their intrest to get it down, and its been more than long enough.

Those delta fans are anything but quiet, but that DVD drive is even worse. It's pretty damn poor IMO, shouldn't be so loud, and it shouldn't be so hot, very poor case.
Oh, and if you want it black, you can always buy some black vinyl paint. Hell of a lot cheaper
Am I the only one with a quiet 360 or am I just going deaf, anyway you have a dedicated dvd player for movies so you cant hear it then and when your playing games I make sure the neighbours can hear as its at its best then.
Much harder now since its based on PowerPC chips from IBM. They are very specific little CPUs not produced at anything like the rate of Intel/AMD so its harder price wise to justify a change.
Plus with the Elite on the same production line it is much cheaper to add another model rather than having a seperate factory line (and all those costs) plus the R&D that goes into it (its not simply a case of "hey I found this smaller chip, i bet it works fine!"). I'm not trying to patronizing but sometimes i don't think people realise how hard it is to change the fabrication process on chips and CPUs, yes Intel do it regularly but they are a much bigger organisation with a lot more capability and quite a focussed product line.
No mine is pretty quiet too, also it is set back behind the speakers so the noise is muffled by the audio. But apparently new ones have a different optical drive which is quieter could be we have on of those.Am I the only one with a quiet 360 or am I just going deaf, anyway you have a dedicated dvd player for movies so you cant hear it then and when your playing games I make sure the neighbours can hear as its at its best then.
