Cool things to do with a PS3

Had a ps3 now since January. Ive only got a couple of games atm.

    - Ive heard about insstalling windows on it? is it worth it? as i would like to watch videos that ive got on my computer.

    - In addition id like to be able to access my comp/laptop from my ps3... Everytime ive searched and found it it says theres an error.

    - Anything else worth doing with the ps3? Whats homebrew?

    Cheers all

Windows would have to be run in Linux inside a VM

You can run linux on it

    You can fold on it

I dont think any of those things are cool - they all make the PS3 run quite hot.

I ideally would like to watch videos from my pc, or even tranfer them on there. But alot of them are Avi and i think the ps3 doesnt support avi?

    I use orb...https://mycast.orb.com/orb/html/login.html
Its a free streaming application for your pc, download the free software, once installed create folder/choose folders/hard drive you want to be able to see(on your pc), then you can use your ps3 web browser to login to orb and your be able to see your shared/open folder/s/hard drive(on your pc), then you can stream videos, music through your ps3. Your be surprised at the vid's that the ps3 can play, i burnt about 5 films as data onto a dvd then put that in my ps3 and it played 3 of them and 1 was a divx the other 2 were avi's, without any converting.

lol, No you download it onto your pc, install it on your pc, it will automatically connect to orb when you start you pc (little green globe in bottom right of you pc)(and you can turn the auto connect off )
Once your pc is connected then where ever you are in the world you can login to orb with the address i gave above and view you files you shared on your pc.
So login to that web addy on your ps3 and your away, browsing your pc hard -drive on your ps3.

ok cool. Do i have to share the files or will it be everything on my c:/ that the ps3 is capable of reading?

via the orbit program, you should be walked through when you install it (if i remeber rightly), it's actually quite cool, i was away working but left my pc on then logged in using a laptop and was able to watch and listen to my stuff whilst stuck in another country.

Question: Trying to play a few mpeg4's's and it plays for 5 seconds then says network error. but i get a picutre, but sometimes it plays more of the file then error comes up. Any ideas?

Are you using Wireless on your PS3? If so whats the strength? I found some issues streaming Wireless at 60% strength signal (i have old house thick walls) so homeplugs solved all that - could be cause?

I also use Orb - its great

I used to use TVersity Media Server which worked without any issues when I streamed music and video to my PS3.

Also worth checking out - PS3 Themes - #1 Site for PS3 Themes for some great themes.
