    GT5:P Thread

Rather than fill the other one up, lets have your thoughts and opinions in here.

My own view - well, I like my driving sims and I also like a challenge so the first thing I always do it turn the realism up to max, and then disable all the driving aids. The cars drive pretty well, though the lack of a neutral gear is a tad annoying.

Most events are fairly good fun but the odd one are absolute stinkers! To try and get gold on the Cappuccino level is nigh on impossible, and some of the Integra "overtake everyone in a lap" events are having a real laugh! I've managed to get silvers, but the elusive gold award is going to take a lot of gameplay time!

Bit disappointed with what I've seen of the AI so far in C and B class racing. They're pretty much fearless and if you dare cut them or brake a tad early they ram you without any attempt at self preservation. Not what I expected from a GT by now.

I also can't update the bloody game. Talk about a network cock up!

On the upside - I genuinely like to watch the replays. Stunning visuals for a console.

I cant believe that you cant play against your friends, the only online play is by match-up

Ive read that this is to be addressed with a patch though.

    Re: GT5:P Thread

Yes - defo worth the money. Just has a couple of annoying traits which I thought would have been ironed out.

It's worth it for the replay feature alone. Yesterday was mainly spent with an M3 Coupe on the Eiger course with the rear end squirming everywhere. Pure entertainment at its best.

You'll enjoy it with that. Make sure you set the wheel to 'simulation' in the options and turn all the assists off in the driving options to get the best feel.

I've been putting off getting a PS3 until the likes of GT5 and MGS make their appearance. Do you think GT5: P would makes it worth my while to go out and get a PS3 now?

    Re: GT5:P Thread

Finally got some time to sit down and try this today, first impressions MASSIVLEY DISAPPOINTED. Put disk in to be presented with a mandatory install, disappointment one.

With the install finished i was presented with an update, after watching the painfully slow download progress it failed at about 60%, i try again, and again still nothing disappointment 2.

I finally gave up on it as after 45 mins of faffing about with the train wreck that is PSN, bought myself a golf, first race, everythings looking pretty handling's much improved (turn off asm and traction it RUINS the game). The first corner i have an AI car just run straight into the back of me, now i know not having any damage model means this dosnt affect the other car or mine for that matter, but what the HELL is polyphony doing, do they even have an AI programmer. It hasn't changed since 3 its like i don't exist on the track. That was disappointment 3.

After battling with the shoddy AI for a while i though id give online a go, this according to the ads is a revolution in online racing. Load up the online bit and oh thats right i dont have the update that eternally fails and has downlaods speeds a dialup user would laugh at. After ANOTHER 45 mins of trying it finally updates, yay i think i'll be racing my friends in a minute. Oh no wait i wont it just lumps me with a bunch of idiot 12 year olds who think its awesome to drive everybody off the road, MASSIVE disappointment 4. I seriously doubt you could make the online aspect of this game any worse at the moment.

I was also disappointed that there wasnt some sort of photo mode, having a game this pretty it seems madness not to put one in.

Anyway, if you were looking to this as a reason to get a PS3 dont, imo its not worth the £17 i paid for it. I really really wanted to like this, being a total car freak and excuse to thrash exotica is welcome and i LOVED the first 3 games, then that 'other' console racer spoiled me with its far superior handling, AI and online.

    So in summary,

The good, handling is better still not the best, graphics are purdy

The bad, you have to install!, update took me nearly one and half hours to get! AI hasnt changed in 6 years no photo mode to take advantage of pretty graphics.

Edit, oh and i have a Dualshock three and this has the worst implementation of rumble ever, rumble strips dont rumble!

Edit 2, Buy a mazda rx8 as your first car, itll smash the opposition in c class.

Prologue on its own is not in any way worth buying a PS3 for. Especially as you seem to have forza 2. It is however worth it if you have a couple of other games you would like to try.

The jury is still out on GT5 for me, no doubt GT5 (full fat) will rock but i feel cheated not being able to tune my cars.

Don't give up with the update by the way guys - it's an resumed download, even if the bar suggests otherwise. Just keep trying and it'll get there in the end.

    Re: GT5:P Thread

I know what you mean, because i've had friends who are still trying to get the update, but they didnt update their time and date (which was wrong with mine), i had 1 error saying my time and date was incorrect so i changed it and the update worked fine and only after 10mins of downloading. Overall i was up and running in about 30 mins, no problems.
I went to my mates at lunch and he changed his time (it was still an hour behind) and the update worked fine.
As for playing online well it's like Project gotham all over again, yes your shoved in rooms with chavs who knock you off but it happens with many games.
They are bringing out another update(some of you will groan) which will bring a friends list in to the game.
