    Re: GRID demo on Marketplace

    PC demo is now out.

I didn't play too much of it, as there are known bugs with my graphics card which make it impossible to watch, and for some reason it never saved my controller setup. But there was plenty of feel of grip for me, which lessens considerably when you leave the road or go over dirt flung onto the road.

I just hope Codemasters don't use the same engine for their upcoming F1 title!
In my opinion the handling of GRID is very similar to the handling of the rallycross x cars on the tarmac sections in DIRT. There is a feel of grip on the road as if you oversteer you can feel the back end of the car sliding out which is then pretty damm difficult to get back under control without spinning it. I can't get enough of the replays of the races, and the instant replay feature in race.

I'm sure the F1 games will not end up like GRID but hopefully they will be made far more enjoyable to play. I like my driving games but find F1 games so boring to play.

the steering is poor, its like your racing on ice. the breaking is unrealistic and each car kind of drives the same also. only difference between cars is the acceleration and speed.

with forza2 almost each car is completelty different.handling, steering, breaking, accelerating and speed

You bring up forza 2 but it is a simulation game, which is far from what race driver grid is about. You even said earlier on the game looks arcadey... I'm shocked you find the handling of the skyline the same as the 3 series and the Mustang, its far more sensitive and the back end practically slides out ... The mustang also is not a match for the BMW in the corners.

    Re: GRID demo on Marketplace

As a sim fan this game is frankly awful, i know GRID is supposed to be arcadey (eurghhh) but it just feels horrid. I didnt know the track for the BMW euro car race but the number of times i realised i was going FAR too fast into a corner slammed on the brakes and miraculously got around the corner. The drifting was horrid and i didnt even bother with the mustang race. I'm staying well away.

Although I loved DIRT it was only the Rally / Hill Climb events I enjoyed. I agree that the handling in GRID is the same as the rallycross events DIRT and it's because of that I didn't enjoy the demo of GRID.

I guess j.o.s.h.1408 summed it up best when he described the handling as like racing on ice and the braking unrealistic. I just didn't get the feeling I was driving a racing car or connected to the road.

    Nice graphics, not great handling

Did the mustang one, hit a rumble strip, car went 90* into the corner, went from over 100 to 30 in under a second when I was sideways.....

    Re: GRID demo on Marketplace

I actually liked the drifting bit.

Turn all the aids off and just drift with lots of countersteer.

    I didn't try anything else.

The only bad thing is its easy to score big points with not very spectacular drifts, just need to keep the drift going and racking up the combo and score. I like to drift with as much throttle and maximum countersteer. Have managed to roll the car three times, lose the driver's door and still drive away to drift.

How is the speed on a speedometer measured?

    Re: GRID demo on Marketplace

GRID looks gorgeous but I really don't like how the cars feel. Is there any PC game that looks half as good and plays like PGR? I only have an original Xbox but would rather play PGR2 than GRID.

Test Drive Unlimited - but it's not track based, more open roads.

    Re: GRID demo on Marketplace

Downloaded it, played the three cars, deleted it.

    Rubbish.

Forza2 has singularly made a massive chalenge for every other racing game ever invented. I expect accurate handling and physics in every racing game I play now - and so far have been dissapointed several times over

Curious as to why people use the excuse that it's an "arcade game".... does that mean its ok for it to be comepleteley rubish?!

For me, the term "Arcade Game" means quick and easy to pick up and play. Like the Ridge Racer series, but this is more like Pseudo realism than out and out fantasy style (aka Ridge Racer).

Games like Forza, for me, require dedicated time to play.

Does this mean Grid is crappy because it is an "Arcade Game"? Not necessarily. The key to any game that appeals to quick, simple game play is how it keeps the player interested long term. The latest Ridge Racer game was too samey and lost it's appeal too quickly, so that is a poor Arcade Game, in my view. The older ones kept things interesting by having to unlock the devil/angel cars by beating them (which generally involved ramming and blocking them).

I found Grid (drifting bit only) fun. Doesn't take long to get the hang of it if you turn off all the aids. I couldn't be bothered with the rest of it.

    Re: GRID demo on Marketplace

I love Forza 2, and I loved the demo for GRID.

It's a completely different game, much more fast paced fun NFS style action, and it looks stunning.

    Probably gonna get it.
