Hi, I'm from England, but I'm going to New York pretty soon and wondering if I wait to buy a ps3 in America will it actually be much cheaper, and will it be able to play all games from England? Cheers

Hi, mines from the US and the only thing you have to worry about is the warrenty. Just get yourself a kettle lead for the power and all games are region free but it's the warrenty that's void, saying that it's only the yearly warrenty, if something happens your still be able to send it back to sony rather than the store like you would do after a year.
Have a good time in the big apple, one place i want to go and hit the record shops!!!
blu ray is region locked too
Ah, I didn't realise that Blu-Ray would be locked as well. What if I were to wait for a while, do you know when the next price drops in consoles will be? I know that there is an 80gb models coming out that is going to superseed that 40gb and surely that would lead to a price drop?

The 40gb is pretty much sold out now from what I've heard, I imagine any remaining when the 80gb is released though will be reduced in price, there's no planned price drop atm though. If you do want to add a new HDD to the PS3 it is an easy job so the difference in hard drive size shouldn't be too much of a problem.
What about peripherals? I'm going to the US and thought about buying a DS3 pad, will it work ok?
Not all Blu-Ray are region locked there are some which will play on US PS3's. There used to be a list of what blu-rays play in different players. Can't find it at the moment though. You could always import them though.
EDIT: Found one http://movietyme.blogspot.com/
Well, reliance on consumer protection laws will become a bit tricky too. In the UK, you can use things like the Sale of Goods Act even after a warranty has run out, or for things a warranty doesn't cover. From a practical perspective, good luck trying that if you bought in the US.
The BluRay region locking isn't as much as an issue as you'd think.
I've got half a dozen BD titles, all bought from the likes of ASDA and TESCOs and they all work fine on my US PS3, including Casino Royale, Enchanted and Pirates of the Caribbean 3...
Oddly, it's DVD region locking that is more of a problem... but then I have a UK DVD player so it makes no odds.
On the warranty front, I got my PS3 very soon after the US launch and it's given me no problems, even though it's folding most of the time it's not in use. However, if it did go boom and it wasn't easily fixable, I'd probably just do without it for a while until I could afford a new UK one.
Of course if you have mates in the US you could ship it back and get it repaired under warranty, but you would still have to pay for shipping!
The PS3 has far less worry of say an XBox going wrong!

There are approx 300+ Region free Bu-ray films at the moment and the list is growing.
I buy all my Blu-ray region free titles for my euro PS3 from the states. Blu-ray films starting from £8.99 inc delivery. They even have an section easily identifiable as "region free"

Not sure how much cheaper buying these in the states direct? But worth checking out maybe.
Is the PS3 dual voltage (no transformer required)? If so, I think I'll pick up a US model when I go out there.
I would get one from over there... for two reasons... it will be a little cheaper and you can play R1 Blu-rays... which are cheaper to get... and they are relased earlier too
The PS3 is dual voltage, just plug in a UK kettle lead and off you go.
