I did it on my old console (which 3rod'd and wasn't returnable as I'd spraypainted the case) and it was fine for the 18 months or so I used it.

You need an exact image of another 120gb HDD to do it, and it works perfectly. Detectable maybe, but MS don't seem that fussed - there are bigger issues for them to worry about banning consoles for.

i agree that they are overpriced! i use my xbox mostly for live so i would never dare risk that mod!
luckily i managed to get an official 120gb drive for 53 quid on ebay (i still think even that is a lil overpriced),
it may be a black elite drive on my arcade jasper but it looks kinda cool!
also with ebay you gotta be careful as there are loads of fake cheap drives on there!
