When my xbox wouldn't read disc anymore and it was out of warranty i said it had the rrod sometimes.
They sent it back with something repaired but not the disc tray so i rang them up and complained and i got sent a different xbox with 24hr shipping and i got a free wireless headset as well.

    Re: Elite Death

My friend sent his off a short while ago, an old premium unit.
Took off the faceplate, hard drive and just sent the bare console for a rrod repair.

Anyhow, he got it back the other day and we were both extremely suprised to find a brand new entire premium package complete with wireless controller, hard drive and the usual.

Better yet, there were 10 Xbox Live Arcade titles on the hard drive itself.

First time I've seen that happen.

A friend of mine was also given a new Pro/Premium machine after sending his off for repair for the 2nd time in 3 months. So he now has a spare 60gb HDD and another controller.

Seeing as there have been offers now and again to get an arcade for £100 I think £60 is too much. A games console should last years, I have a working CD32, Atari 2600 and Amiga 1200 still.

If you use it every day, then 1 year is good! Given that they don't make 'em like they use do and that (pedantic mode ON: 1200 isn't really a console though, is it?)

    Well - your all right!

I know what I am going to do the next time the console fails without a RROD!

Also - I am hoping the new dashboard ripping games to the hard drive will reduce wear and tear on the DVD drive! Hopefully this one will last longer than a year!

    Reduce it? Practically eliminates it

The only time your disc spins up after you ripped it is to identify the disc when you start it, and to check it is legit before starting the game

Don't do it on Halo 3 though

True, but you know what i mean

If you use it every day 1 year isn't too bad i suppose, would be nice if they made stuff last longer though.
