PS3 Problem, Image keeps going black

This is an odd one, it happens a lot when playing a DVD or bluray, but not that much when gaming.

The screen goes black for about 1-3 seconds.

When playing a film this will happen about once every 5 min on average. When playing wipeout in full 1080p it only happened once in about an hour.

I've tried turning it down to 720p, even using it on a different TV + cable, same result.

Any suggestions before i try the nice people at sony support telling them my launch day PS3 isn't working?

Out of interest did you try a TV with the default AV cable?

Does it happen on games?
