Hmm new black xbox360 or PS3

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6502421.stm

Last console I had was a PS2 - cant decide if to wait for the new 360 or get a PS3.

I like both - and I spose once you buy the HD player for the new xbox you are looking at nearly same price with PS3 anyway.

Think the new xbox is worth hanging out for?

They are about equal in features, for a similar price. The xbox won't look quite as cool with the separate HD-DVD drive.
But the xbox has better and more variety of games at the moment.

If buying now, go for the xbox. You can add the HD-DVD easily if you find yourself wanting it. And it works for your computer as well.
If buying in 6 months, wait and ask the question again.

To decide between them should be easy....

What games do you like? What system are they out on or likely to come out on?

    Do you want/need media streaming?

Anything else is irrelevant IMO. Both are just tools, choose the tool that fits the job you need it to do best.

ps3 only has like 11 games and their all average IMO.

seriously if your soul purpose in buying a console is to play games than dont even consider a ps3.

    360. Has all the games, better online, better media streaming , better entrance price.

The PS3 will make more sense in time but right now it wouldn't be an option for me.

    360. The experience just "works". It just "feels" right.
Its hard to put my finger on it, but it just feels very polished.

I have to agree with the views above as well. I first saw the xbox360 and though " hmm.. okay" but after using one for a while before purchasing one I started to love the features like on-line chat with friends, messaging and the ease of which it is all done.

Not only this, I was impressed with the way MCE2005 integrated the xbox360 to the network and streamed video's files and mp3 media. This was the Main reason I purchased MCE2005 and the media centre remote - to control the xbox as an extender downstairs.

Next up, Live. Now this impressed me. It's great and yes I know I have a "silver" account but I've been waiting for the news of the implementation of the accounts into vista as well before I upgraded to a gold account

Once you buy a HD-DVD player the price will be way past the PS3 if you get the new elite thing. If your looking at features and your not getting the elite you would be paying perhaps about the same but would have less features. Not that I care pertiularly but you sound like you care a little anyway.

tbh *** has fooled a lot of people, right now I know PS3 sucks, but if they didn't come out a year ahead PS3 would have kicked them in them to the curb. They got out the door early with some cheaper models, got the developer support racked up and only now are they releasing the TRUE console they wanted to in the first place.

tbh everyone loves Xbox Live but I see it as the thing that killed consoles, it provided developers with the chance to take the PC attitude of "we'll patch it later".

    ???

Given the problems with the PS3 even with an extra year's development over the xbox, imagine what it would have been like if released on time. The blu-ray diode shortage has helped Sony quite a bit.

Right now, xbox 360 hands down, there are hardly any unique games on the PS3 that are really any good.

Remember, whether a console is good is always down to games. It's pointless buying a console unless you have quite a long list of games you want to get, other wise it's just an expensive paperweight.

To be considering which one you want to get based on format is far too early, you could end up buying one, and find it's format loses the battle for supremacy, so unless you've got bundles of cash and like adopting tech early, it's best to base your decision on the gameplay side of things right now.

PS3 will have some great games, but as it stands today it must be the Xbox 360. Come next year and it might be different...maybe.

If the "Elite" comes out then I'll have to get one.

Not for any reason other than the current one looks a bit daft next to my other kit, which is all black. The missus is ready to take to it with a spray can as is.

And if they bring out a black Wii... grrrr !
