(Another) RROD 360 - Launch console - Will MS fix?

Mate of mine has just got his first RROD on a launch console - it's now a couple of months out of the three year warranty window for a free fix by MS. He called up the helpline today, they want £78 to fix it. I suggested he pushed on them to fix for free. Any thoughts or experiences here with just out of warranty RRODs?

I am sure I have read a few posts on the forums of people getting older xbox's repaired for free after a bit of haggling with MS

Cheers - he gave up in the end. He binned the original RROD 360 and bought another one!

mine's just gone too. I've bought a new one, but I'm going to have a go at fixing the old one as well.

Pretty easily fixed, they just don't tend to last all that long afterwards.

I did the X-Clamp fix on mine and it worked for a few weeks but now it only lasts a couple of days before I need to open it again.

A friend of mine wanted to get his Elite fixed and they said it was out of the 3 year warranty which seems a bit strange, because I'm almost sure the Elites haven't been around for 3 years in the UK.

My 360 RRoD on me today one of the first with an HDMI port. about 2 years old now. Its been pretty good until tonight when it RRoD with lines all over the screen. Odd thing was it was red but I could still use it to watch DVDs etc.

Mine Red Ring'd this afternoon, only had it for 3 months :/. Bought it from a mate and it has never broken. Came back from a holiday and it wont turn on .
£78 doesnt sound cheap, surely you could get one on ebay for that kind of money?
I havent heard great things about Ms's fixes lasting that long.

MS fixes dont last long. mine broke 6 times. you might as well buy a new one or beg them to send u a brand new one not a refurb

My mate gave up and just bought a new one instead... Other mate's refurb also failed again within a couple of months, he bought a new one too.

best way aint it. Its a pain though. people say the 360's dont cost much but some have already paid a lot for buying more than one 360 so far

Yes one console doesnt cost much but when you buy another one, the costs for gaming on a 360 for over 3 years increases. Its just a damm shame MS made such an unreliable piece of hardware.

i would still use my 360 as my primary gaming machine if it wasnt for the unreliabity of it.

if it dies again I am going to fix it myself and mod it while I am at it with some nice LEDs etc

The problem is that if you fix it yourself, it will only last a couple of weeks
