This could be a major issue. Last night I found I had silly amounts of points saved on the game reward card so I bought the 120gb HD. Get home go to transfer and now its stuck in a constant loop where it won't find the original drive to copy. The software keeps asking for the 20gb HD and I have the 60GB hard drive in mine. All the MS documentation states its the same setup regardless if the original HD is 20gb or 60gb.

Need to call MS tonight to see if there is a solution or if there is another version of the software for the newer drives. No matter what I do it asks me to remove the HD in the xbox and insert it again to reboot the xbox and run the transfer kit, you do this and it does the same again.

    Re: 360 HDD upgrade

Will check when I get home

Reading about it seems that I may have an early migration kit that wants the 20gb HD, there was a newer version released for the newer 60gb HD's which is what I assume this sku ending in 1 or 2 is for. So it's not the DVD at fault but the actual cable?

Finlay, just had it checked and on the cable itself it ends in 001 and the hard drive ends in 002. Does this help you at all?

If you get one make sure its one of the newer ones like finlay states as mine won't transfer as it wants a 20GB hd when I have the 60gb

Did you do a 60gb hd to a 120gb hd? If so then yeah I will most certainly borrow it off you Where about's in the great North East are you heading to as I will collect them off you as its only fair instead of asking you to run about.

EDIT: my bad, half asleep just noticed you did a 20 - 120. I don't know if it is the cable or the actual dvd thats the issue as I assume the program is looking for a 20gb HDD I may end up having to call MS and see if there are any differences in the kits for the 20gb hdd drives and the 60's

Important Content can only ever be moved from a smaller source drive to a destination drive that is the same size or larger and only one time. For example, the following hard drive pairings allow transfer from source to (">") destination:
    20GB > 20GB
    20GB > 60GB
    20GB > 120GB
    60GB > 60GB
    60GB > 120GB
    120GB > 120GB
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937279?sd=xbox

From the sounds of it it shouldn't matter, as the kits should just work. But ofc we are talking about MS here. I'll see if i can find my kit and compare numbers with what Finlay has.

Yeah I have been through the same MS page about the transfers and it keeps asking me for a 20GB HD for some reason. I get to the point where it asks for the new 120GB hard drive to be connected, I do that and then it goes to a screen saying "Please insert the original Hard Drive into the console" thing is, it's already attached to the console. So it asks you to de-attach it then the console will reboot and then attach the drive at boot up. Do all this and it does the same thing over and over.

Like I said, you don't need a new Elite to get a free transfer cable,
just call them and explain you've bought a new HDD.

I did, they asked no questions and sent it right away..
but after reading through the thread I think I ended up with the wrong version.

    Re: 360 HDD upgrade

Just got off the phone to Microsoft and theyare sending a new cable and dvd to me within 10 working days.

The codes on my items are:

    CD: X13-59869-01
    Cable: X812003-001
    HDD: X812893-002

Looks like I got some very early gear from when these drives were released if these numbers are anything to go by.
