    Ps3?

I never thought I would be posting this. Time to eat me words.

But I heard on another website that Uncharted 2 is not possible on the 360 due to hardware. Unchanted 2? I googled it and was surprised. I even checked out the first 10 minutes of gameplay on Youtube for Uncharted and the first 5 minutes of the yet to be released Uncharted 2. And the thread on these forums.

Then I think of of titles like Infamous and possibly MGS.

I have an XBox 360 that is not being used at the moment. Basically, most games I am interested in on the 360 are out on PC. And out of the two I prefer it on me PC.

I am seriously giving thought into trading in my 360 for PS3.

I was wondering about how dependant the PS3 is on the internet.
I am a single player gamer. I go online via a 3G USB dongle. My 360 I could simply connect my 360 up to my PC and my 360 can update via my PC to the internet. Is this possible with PS3?

Also what accessories will I essentially need to get me started.

And in light of me discovering Uncharted, What other excellent PS3 exclusives are there?

Sony have made the PS3 almost non reliant on internet access. If you want to apply the latest patch there is no need to connect to the internet at all, just download the firmware from Sony onto a memory stick (following the correct pathways) plug into PS3 and then hit the update button.

As for games have a read of this thread

Updating is easy (as said above). The only accessory you need will be a joypad, and that comes with the console.

A first party game built around the PS3's unique architechture. Its not possible on the 360 in terms of harware, but only in the same way as GoW is not possible on PS3

The PS3 is a great system with some decent titles and a more refined hardware experience

If you find yourself not using the 360 then a change may well be worth considering. You may regret getting rid of the 360 though. I have sold a DC, a Mega Drive and a PS2 in the past only to regret selling them at a later date. Dont do it

The reason I bought a 360 was to play games that are not on PC to get the best of both worlds. At the time that was GTA 4 + The Darkening. Now the only games I want to play not on PC are on PS3. Besides, at this rate my 3 year warranty will have expired before it RRD's.

    Re: Ps3?

I now have both a PS3 and a 360 and I think the PS3 is a much better built system but the 360 would still get my vote for gaming.

Same as Jay says for me. I own both and the PS3 feels more solid, but in terms of games, I find myself on the 360 almost exclusively.
Blu-ray is gorgeous though, so if you have a top end big display and don't mind spending a few more quid on a film it's certainly worth factoring that in too.

    Re: Ps3?

I already have a Blu Ray on my PC so that really is not an issue with me. I guess it must soley be down to the games themselves. It's just every time I go into a games shop and browse the 360 section nothing is persuading me to part with my cash. And my 360 is all wrapped neatly in a drawer not being used.

Annoying because the 360 is a great gaming machine. I was planning on getting Borderlands for 360 when it comes out at the end of the month. Thing is, it is out on PS3 and PC as well.
It really does seem that owning a PC and PS3 would pretty much set you up for all the sweet games coming out. Since PS3 is getting so many exclusives.

    Re: Ps3?

I bagged a PS3 slim and a copy of Infamous.

Getting it out the box it was good not seeing a big power brick.

I fired it up and the hardware and interface is soooo much better than the 360. And the way the battery for the tiny controller is inside the thing, nice touch. I also love the way it gives you the option to update via removable storage. All in all I think the PS3 is much more suited to my needs and works in a way much more convienient to me.

it feels more adult and I am surprised st the ammount of options the interface has. It feels more a media PC. I can see myself using this over my PC for gaming right now. It is a lot more quiter than the 360. But bloody hell, this thing runs just as hot. Are you guy's getting that with the older models of PS3?

Playing Infamous you could see that the 360 could run this game just as well. That is a bit annoying that exclusives drove me to buy this when other platforms could perform just as well. Still, the PS3 is a very nice peace of hardware. Looking a the 360 I am not surprised Sony are selling this hardware at a loss.

I take back what I said about the 360 being better value for money. But is it me of the games a bit more pricey?

I'm looking forward to Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2.

My PS3 only ever ran hot once - That was when I first fired it up and in my rush to get it setup, stood it on the wrong end. The fat PS3 exhausts from one side, so I'd effectively blocked it up!

    Re: Ps3?

I don't think that my PS3 runs particularly hot. At least I don't feel the temperature increase in my room after a few hours, something I can't say about my PC. Will pay more attention to it next time.

I have a 360, only because I love all those classic arcade games I used to play when I was a kid!

It's after a session of Infamous I noticed it. I just thought "N0000000." It was like a 360 in terms of heat.

Also, I noticed an option. PS scaling and some option under it saying smoothing. Is this to do with PS2 games? I thought the PS3 had that ability snuffed out.

Maybe I could get some old Final Fantasy on the go.

hehe yeah can imagine it got rather toasty!

As a rule, always have plenty of room around the PS3 (ie not surrounded/wedged in with other av gear) Where mine sits now (horizontally)it has nothing around sides and back within something like 15/20cm so no issues with airflow. I remember once the wife moved it upstairs and placed it in our spare room in media desk unit that is rather packed with bits and pieces and has a back to it. Within 10 mins the fan kicked up and it got very hot and could hear the fan on overdrive. Never have this issue in its main home in living room even after extended periods gaming etc, its practically silent/cool.

    Re: Ps3?

I have a ps3 and a 360. The PS3 just plugged in and connected to the internet really easily. For the 360 because I wasn't prepared to pay another 50 quid for a wireless adapter I had to run a cat5 cable through to the living room.
Also, online play with the PS3 is free. I'm not going to pay a subscription for gold membership so no online 360 playing for me.
