Re: How Many of you guys with Phat PS3 have updated firmware?

I haven't yet. I object to the idea of features being removed from something I already bought. And extra offensive is that some completely unrelated stuff is barred from un-updated consoles - e.g. the Singstar Singstore.

I've updated, never been interested in installing another operating system anyway, but agree that it's poor form to sell it with something then take it away.

Re: How Many of you guys with Phat PS3 have updated firmware?

    In all fairness I haven't turned mine on since it came out but I'm in no rush to either... too much work on my mind ;_;

Not really interested in the hacking scene of the PS3 although I think it's a cool movement. Linux out of the box on the PS3 was cool but it was so heavily gimped that it ran incredibly slow under an entirely locked off environment... how was that supposed to be ideal or fun to anyone with out any sort of hardware acceleration!?

Re: How Many of you guys with Phat PS3 have updated firmware?

I have, again it is poor form, but to be honest Linux would run better in a VM on my desktop than my PS3. Also I use PlayTV so I don't want to miss recording Homes Under The Hammer because I booted into Linux.

Re: How Many of you guys with Phat PS3 have updated firmware?

    I've not updated yet.

Until it becomes a requirement I tend to leave updates as long as possible, too many risks being an early updater and I can play games fine at the moment.

Not bothered by the loss of install other OS, as it's not something I plan to do.

Installed on my phat - No issues as it's never had Linux on there.

Never put another OS on mine either, not updated yet but I will at some point. It is a bit ridiculous selling a product with certain abilities then slowly taking them all away. First PS2 compatability, now this, what's next?

Not releasing something with hardware features is one thing. You know what you are and aren't getting. Software is something else...

Re: How Many of you guys with Phat PS3 have updated firmware?

This all comes down to the exploit, take the functionality away and it hampers the hackers attempts to create exploits. I wasnt bothered by Linux when I had my phat 80Gb, so havnt missed it at all with my slim

Apparently he's re-broken it and has found a way to get it on the Slim as well.

Re: How Many of you guys with Phat PS3 have updated firmware?

Nope not done it on either of my two Phats. Ones an original 60GB (with 320GB upgrade) the other a 40GB (with 120GB Upgrade).

I just haven't got round to it, all games play and I can't be bothered with the online stuff too much now. Neither have had Linux on there as from what I saw it didn't run, well very quick and it wouldn't serve as a media centre replacement for my needs. Something about having a part of the PS3 which no one else does makes it unique in a way ...

Re: How Many of you guys with Phat PS3 have updated firmware?

I updated straight away - got a few games that connect to the internet in the background and so need the update, and although I installed Linux it was always a pain in the neck to use so I never bothered with it much.

    Still fuming at Sony though.
