Hi,
I've been toying with the idea of getting Kinnect. Wii is still a little bit too advanced for my 3 year old! The one thing which puts me off is that my existing 360 sounds like a hoover. Are the new ones any quieter?
Regards...

The new ones are almost silent. Even when they are running games from the disk.
New ones still sound like hoovers mate when playing games from disc

Yes its much much quieter - both in terms of fan noise and the disc drive.
I used to have a 120gb elite, which wasnt too bad at first but then got progressively louder as time went by (despite cleaning with compressed air etc)...plus any disc spinning in the drive sounded dreadful.
Pre-ordered a new 250gb slim, and its been fantastic - its easily as quiet as my ps3 slim (in that you cant hear it when its switched on & idling) and both sound similar after sustained periods of gaming and the fans have spun up - its audible at full tilt but not distracting. Disc drive is also a lot quieter, not as quiet as the ps3, but a massive improvement over my original elite.
I'd still always opt to install the games though as there is still some noise. Its comparable to a normal pc dvd drive at full pelt - the noise cant be avoided.
The kinect itself is great, but seriously make sure you have a decent amount of sapce in front of your tv - reviews arent kidding when they say you need at least 6ft of space in front of the sensor. Also, the sensor has to be able to "see the floor" - so you cant put it inside an av cabinet looking outwards...it has to be on an edge so it can 'look' up and down.
Just something to bear in mind!!
Also unrelatedly, if you get a chance go for the 4gb slim and then put a 250gb hdd in it - as the 4gb is matt black... the full fat 250gb is shiney...and thus gets horribly dusty / finger printed - which bearing in mind all the buttons are touch sensitive on the new models - so it needs cleaning all the time with regular use.
I was extremely surprised at the low noise levels from our new Xbox. With a 250GB hard drive, installing the games to the hard drive eliminates the need for discs!
Yeah they sound fine, even quieter when you install the game and not run from disc.
I can confirm that my Xbox 360 (premium with HD out) sounds like a plane when playing a game from the disc. 4 other Xbox 360's around me (also playing from the disc) sounded fine. So I think it varies, perhaps even with the new ones. (I was told by those around me that I had to save the game to the hard drive or leave! Sounds fine after saving to hard drive.)
I sware if you store the game on HDD its almost silent?
I've had an original 360, Falcon (HDMI + lower power use) and now a 360S 250gb
Running a game off the hdd on the 360s is very quiet, still fairly noisy running direct from disc though but near silent otherwise
It's actually quieter than my ps3 slim running an xbl/psn game
My Elite 120Gb runs quietly since I installed my games on to the HD. The slim 250GB is only £190 now, go for it! I got my Elite in 2007 for £300!
Install the games to HD and its whisper quiet.....
Well almost!
