Yeah + 1 for normal AA recharchabes. I use some and they ca last a good few weeks of moderate use. Much easier to find, cheaper too.
I bought the official charger with 2 batteries in 2006, and they don't seem to hold any charge now. Past useable.

+1 for Sanyo Eneloops - low discharge and they last for ages. My Xbox was situated on a shelf above my tv, so the charging cable got in my eyesight.
I sold my official battery packs online and plumped for the Eneloops - haven't looked back since...
you could buy the ones from pound land there 2 for £1 and just open the old pack and take the old batts out and solder the new ones in
lol world class solder ;] i make little chip boards when i can be bovered to (all most never) i just waiting till i have cash to up grade my xbox to a new one which should be xmas and modding out my controller with loads of mod packs tbh it needs a new shell i might buy a new shell and repair the old one and paint it
If you can find some by 'Venom' they are pretty good.
Seemed to charge quite well and hold it for quite some time, I could get a good week out of them using every day!
They charge via usb straight into the battery pack also, so do not need to be in a controller and can be done via laptop/pc etc

I can see 1 supplier who may have stock of the xbox 360 official batteries, but they are not back in the office now until after the new year, so I'll wait till they are back to see if we can get stock and more importantly information as to why they've all gone
I had the same problem. Bought a recharge station only to find it comes bundled with one rechargeable pack when it can support more. I tweeted @XboxSupport and they had no idea.
Very few places sell them at the moment. You can find them at Play but for a premium.
*Just joined Hexus today > So I am unable to ^ link ^ until 5 posts. Sorry.
Check your local Game and Gamestation too; They normally stock them in-store but not online.
I just use the venom ones now too. Asda sell them for about £9 for the dual pack and charging cable.
Same here. I've given up on buying MS XBox batteries since they are expensive and my 2 XBox batteries died within 12 months.
I got 4 AA 2450 mAh Duracell rechargables from Amazon for £5.39
The first pair are still going strong. Charged them 3 weeks ago and have been paying an hour or two 5 nights a week on average.
I purchased a couple of the "Hi tec Essentials" play and charge kits from amazon recently......absolutely terrible. I gave them the full battery conditioning cycle, then left them for a couple of weeks and by the time I tried to use one, they were dead already. completely useless.

I consider the 'official' battery packs a complete waste of money, they basically consist of 2 basic AA NiMHs plus a thermistor. Here's 2 out of a newer pack, the older ones used Sanyo batteries:
As others have said, just get a couple of AAs (you could get 4 and be able to swap for less than the cost of one official pack). Be aware though, AAs vary in diameter slightly so most rechargeables will be snug but GP Recykos don't fit.
I bought these 2 years ago & they're still working fine (£10 for 2 x Xbox batteries + charging cable)

I bought 2 of the M$ quick charge units right after I got my xbox.
Both were dead within 6 months.
Ever since then I just have normal rechargeable batteries, you can get them cheap enough and for things like game controllers you don't need high power ones like you do with cameras.
I have a little desktop smart charger that always has 4 in it so if I am playing and the light starts flashing I just swap batteries and continue playing.
I use normal rechargable ones. They were cheap and do their job. I don't see why you would pay more for the MS logo.
Grab some hi capacity aa rechargeables, I use vapextech, they do hi cap and instants for things like remote controls
