Parents will buy their kids the cheaper console come holiday season so I think Sony might have won this assuming Microsoft keeps the price as high as it is!

Although it looks like they are waiting to see how well the ps4 release goes before committing to it.“We actually do have a PlayStation 4 version in mind, but for this holiday season, we thought it would be best for users to release on PS3 for now.”
So sorry it's a "Maybe/Probably"
It's very hard to find out any definite releases for ether console atm there's so much speculation flying around.
I think it's very ridiculous to say ether side has won at this point it'll be at least a year before we have a solid idea.
I've got a feeling that both are going to do fairly badly at launch, with the economy still being fairly depressed and the eating in that tablets and mobile phones has done.

I've been an xbox fan and not touched a ps3 since the release of both...but it looks like Sony have me sold with just being able to play games on other consoles. When I come back to uni, I usually bring fifa along to play with my brother, and I usually sell it before the next fifa comes out - so ps4 has won me over.

You know, I have been thinking on previous (current gen) today. One thing that hasn't really been answered clearly yet.
You can play PS3 games by Gaikai streaming on PS4 which will no doubt have to be purchased from PSN store, guessing that the PS4 has some layer of backwards compatibility. So I have a copy of Demons Souls on disc presently for example but don't want to have to purchase it again just to be able to play / use on PS4.
What I am wanting to really know presently though is backwards compatibility with PS3 discs, also I have a collection of PS1 games on disc and wondering if they are going to work. I REALLY hope that at least PS1 and PS3 games work on PS4, PS2 would be a welcome addition also.
As far as I've heard, no
It's the change from powerpc to x68 based cpu which makes them incompatible.
Sony are planning an online streaming service aka a cloud gaming service, for ps3 games (and maybe some older game) from which you will have to rebuy or rent games, it is possible that you may be able to somehow link your current disk games to a playstation plus account, so you don't have to rebuy them but is unlikely.
It's not a great solution and I'm very surprised MS haven't announced a similar service.

I'd say you're guessing wrong. The point of streaming is you don't need to have any compatibility - as long as you've got something at your end that can display pictures and sound, and pass on control inputs (as well as an internet connection). You could stream to PS4s, PCs, TVs whatever you like really. We used to use it for rendering so you'd have a server farm somewhere making highly complicated pictures, which would stream to your iphone or whatever - no way was the iphone compatible with the rendering packages, but it had a display, a control input, and an internet connection.
It's not just the console price that's a massive problem. With games being locked to user accounts. Any household/family that has more than one gamer, and those people all want to play the same game will all have to buy the game seperate.
Even if the Xbox was cheaper, many people would be looking at having to buy some games 2 or mabee even 3 times for the same house.
When the pre order price is currently £54.99 for the games that's a massive difference every time.

Up to 10 members of your family can even access your entire games library on any other xbox one. Two people can have a game active at any one time.
Why do people speculate wildly when Microsoft has posted the info? http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/license 8 days ago!
http://pastebin.com/uCmdh9jB is a rather interesting read also

I suspect that Microsoft will have an easier time than Sony in landing "exclusives", they've already been working hard to ensure that the XBox360 gets earlier access to DLC, and seem to be more concerned with addressing the concerns of people who make games for a living.
Let's not forget that for everyone person who comments on the internet and is up in arms about being spied upon, there's 10 other sheeple who are already content with having fully public Facebooks with their phone numbers on.

This is bunny and friends. He is fed up waiting for everyone to help him out, and decided to help himself instead!
Unless Microsoft make some pretty big changes and fairly quickly it really looks like they've got it in the bag from my perspective.
Microsoft might try and take some of the Wii marketshare though. If they can get their Kinect games to have the same sort of traction that the Wii has previously had it could be something we see in every living room for "party games" and all that fun stuff.
