Did Sony just win the next console war?

    So after E3 we have some more details, firstly, yay for common sense;

Cheaper, no silly buggers, more exclusives, loads of indies. I thought MS won the last round with 360 but I think Sony's out to get their crown back.

The PS4 is a sweet looking machine, Sony all the way for me now, didn't replace the 360 when it RROD last year and love my PS3 and the plus membership.

The short official video from Sony about game sharing (Dig at Microsoft) is REALLY funny :

Re: Did Sony just win the next console war?

I tend to agree. It is clear Microsoft was catering to the publishers with the fees upon fees for used games. Sony knows what the consumer wants. Lets hope its enough to drive customers to the PS4 and send a message that the system Microsoft wants to implement is unwelcome.

With all the online requirements and fees, I'd say they were pulling an EA with the Xbox One.

Sony have really gone for the jugular with that conference. Digs at Microsoft everywhere. No region locks, no restrictions on used games. Will probably end up buying.

They may not have won it, but they definitely scored the first hit. It'll be interesting to see how long MS holds onto that launch price and if they'll soften their stance on used games etc..

Re: Did Sony just win the next console war?

Sony haven't got an triple A titles before next year - MS have a massive line up on day 0.

time will tell , but I think MS will score big this xmas.

that and the Kinect HD pretty much makes up the price difference.

Re: Did Sony just win the next console war?

The price of the PS4 surprised me but then you likely have to add the Eye and another pad.
    Xbox One = $500 PS4 = $520

Then there is the issue of adding the on-line costs to rival Live.

Regarding the use of second hand games... does this mean that you need the disc to play a game? Need to swap disc to swap game?

The Xbox One doesn't require a disc hence the need for a new licence.
Microsoft are just going the way of steam, so no complaints from me if they lower the price of games to that of a PC title.

    ummm what about
    Call of Duty: Ghosts
    War Thunder
    Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn
    Wolfenstein: The New Order
    Killzone: Shadow fall
    NBA 2k14
    Battlefield4
    Watchdogs
. . . there's more if you want me to keep going.

Sony doesn't seem to have many exclusives, but nor does microsoft (although a couple more than sony) and they are touting a lot of things as exclusive when they are not.

From my point of view the Xbone is £429, the PS4 £349

Last time I checked you needed to pay Microsoft to play online. But even if people wanted to nitpick. 12 Months of Gold retails for $60, and 12 months of PSN+ will retail for $60 so it doesn't even matter.

Quite possibly. Whilst it would be amazing for the PS4 to allow people to put the game fully on the HDD and play without the disc (for the purpose of not facing the problem of a broken laser), it would make piracy too easy. But seeing what Microsoft has had to do in order to let people play without the disc, I think that many people would be willing to get off their arses to change the game disc when they wanted to play a new game.

Not quite sure what you mean here.

    *chuckles softly*

What makes you think that they are going to do that? Games will retail new for $60, just like they always have done. There will be no steam-style sales in Microsoft's world.
