Isle of Skye (56k no way)

been a while since i posted anything so i thought i may aswell give you the good stuff.

Just spent 6 glorious days on the Isle of Skye - mainly taking photos all week. Here are the first batch from The Trotternish Ridge, North East Skye.

    ...............................

The Old Man of Storr - The Storr is a rocky hill on the Trotternish peninsula of the Isle of Skye. The hill presents a steep rocky eastern face overlooking the Sound of Raasay, contrasting with gentler grassy slopes to the west.
The Storr is prime example of the Trotternish landslip, the longest such feature in Great Britain.
The area in front of the cliffs of The Storr is known as The Sanctuary. This has a number of weirdly shaped rock pinnacles, the remains of ancient volcanic plugs. One of the most famous of these is known as The Old Man of Storr. (Source: Wikipedia)

    .........................

The Quraing - The Quiraing is a spectacular landslip on the eastern face of Meall na Suiramach, the northernmost summit of the Trotternish Ridge on the Isle of Skye. The whole of the Trotternish Ridge escarpment was formed by a great series of landslips; the Quiraing is the only part of the slip still moving, the road at its base near Flodigarry requires repairs each year.

Whilst traveling back from Skye between Fort William and Glen Coe we stopped off at Rannoch Moor for a quick photo opportunity.

Rannoch Moor - is a large expanse of around 50 square miles (130 km&#178 of boggy moorland to the west of Loch Rannoch, in Perth and Kinross and Lochaber, Highland, Scotland.

    ..............................

    18. 10mm | 1/50th sec | F22 (silly me) | 0.9ND Grad (silly me again should have had my 0.6 on)

    .............................

Derwent Water - is one of the principal bodies of water in the Lake District National Park in the north of England.
The lake occupies part of Borrowdale and lays immediately south of the town of Keswick. It is both fed and drained by the River Derwent. It measures approximately 4 km (3 miles) long by 1.5 km (1 mile) wide and is some 22 metres (72 feet) deep. There are several islands within the lake, of which at least one is inhabited.

    19. (a Waterfall that feeds into Derwent Water) 20mm | F16 | 4 second | Cokin P 154 - the jpg compression has really lost the greens from the original p'shop file.

    20. 10mm | ISO 100 | F16 | 4 seconds | ND Grad 0.9

    21. 10mm | ISO 100 | F16 | 20 seconds | ND Grad 0.9

    C&C welcome as always

    WOW!

Those are seriously impressive photos. I am sure you could make a few quid selling some of them as posters.

That first photo, with the 3 minute exposure, was it taken at night? or is that filter very dark?

Those are truly fantastic pictures! Amazing looking place, and captured so well, very moody

Although I love the jetty / sunset ones, I think 14 & 15 are my favourite ones... torn as to which I prefer though!

    Excellent stuff

I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time.... It was them that started me drinking.

Absolutely stunning stuff. You've got a great eye for landscapes - am I right in thinking that it's the use of a grad ND filter that really "makes" those images work? I haven't got an ND grad myself and haven't experimented with the effect they have.

Absoloutly beautiful Bbp! Thanks for sharing those gems with us.

They really are some of the nicest pictures I've seen taken for a while, lovely composition and you've captured a brilliant ambience to the location.
